UPDATED: susan loone had compiled a list of bloggers who blog on this issue here. thanks, susan, you are great!

say what? me a liar? hey, haven’t i mentioned before i am not a liar? and now you are saying i don’t like national unity!
well, well, what do you know… what a nice ‘gift’ the tourism minister, tengku adnan, seemed to bring to us women bloggers on occasion of international women’s day yesterday. he said:
“Bloggers are liars. They use all sort of ways to cheat others. From what I know, out of 10,000 unemployed bloggers, 8,000 are women.“Bloggers like to spread rumours, they don’t like national unity. Today our country has achievements because we are tolerant and compromising. Otherwise we will have civil war.“Malays will kill Chinese, Chinese will kill Malays, Indians will kill everybody else.”He asked people not to believe bloggers and gamble away Malaysia’s future because 50 years of Merdeka (Independence) takes a lot to achieve it.“We have to show to the people our positive attitude. If the world learns from us, there will peace and no civil war.
this was said yesterday when he was addressing the media at the 2007 Malaysia GP Sales when he was asked about allegations made on a blog blog by a female TV presenter. it was reported in the chinese daily, sin chew. the above was a translated version of the original in sin chew. for the full version of the translation see jerry who’s blog. some women celebrity activists had blog on this e.g. marina mahathir, susan loone, elizabeth wong.
this year is visit malaysia year (VMY) adnan is the tourism minister. didn’t he realise that some way or another, bloggers do help to promote malaysia? why, look at my blog, i have the VMY logo right on top.
"bloggers are liars" – it was a very serious allegations you made, encik adnan. what if we say "politicians are corrupt’? will you be happy?
"From what I know, out of 10,000 unemployed bloggers, 8,000 are women." – wonder where he got this data from. sure kah so many bloggers are unemployed?
*sigh*. here we have another politician attacking us bloggers. remember once it was pak lah who said we were not responsible? then this what minister considered registering bloggers. are they banding together to attack bloggers? luckily we now have our bloggers united, where we banded together!

It’s very irresponsible for the tourism minister to say that. He can say anything without any back up facts. What does he know about blogging anyway? I think he should just focus on Visit Malaysia Year 2007. He said people should put extra effort to ensure the success of VMY instead of criticizing (especially by bloggers). But isn’t it the success of a national campaign depends on the leadership of its minister? By the way, what’s his name again?
lucia: tengku adnan bin tengku manso. read about him here:

yes, what does he know about blogging anyway? just because that one women blogger (from indonesia) made some constructive criticism (which he can’t accept!) he branded all bloggers s liars!

he talks exactly like nearly all the rest of those useless politicians who are self serving and all out to reap the rewards in the 5 years that they are wrongly elected ! Shoots from the mouth with bloated pockets and sinful benefits. Do u really know how much RM has been spent in overseas promotions…to enrich a few selected ones…? but how are the promotions felt here… if at all ?
lucia: yep. ‘em politicians are all the same. their tongue works faster than their mind. it’s tongue-a-jogging to them, not mental jogging (my blog namesake).

Just what VMY needs… a moron adding to other moronic comments usually spewed by Semi-value & Co on domestic issues. Guess you have to show your IQ level is the same as them to get nominated for the coming elections. And what better way then to make such a statement? Perhaps he is pissed off with women because a measlely Indon showed his Ministry not up to the mark. If it was a caucasian women he would have been shedding copius tears and offering his personal services.
lucia: yeah maybe his male ego was hurt by that indonesian woman blogger?

Come on Dato’ … you sound like a child… Its like you are saying that all Islam is terrorists….. Is it true? i Dont think so… Sigh … another stupid man blasting his mouth off without thinking 1st… or was he thinking out loud??
lucia: did he ever think in the first place?

Ku Nan probably talked that way because earlier that morning, his wife had katuked him on the head with the penyapu for coming home late from the disco. He was still groggy and smarting from the bump on his head when he blamed the 8,000 unemployed women bloggers for starting the Sunni-Shiite civil war in Iraq. That knock from the broom has certainly short-circuited his brain cells, so he mixed up the Sunni and Shiites with the Malays and the Indians. Poor old man…I think I’ll go visit him in the hospital
lucia: hmm… a likely scene to happen.

Hi Lucia Well if i met him i would say " How Rude " But it is only his opinion and does it matter ? Does he matter ? Anyways tcz cheerz
lucia: hi sweetspirit, long time no see.
yes it does matter because he is a VIP, a minister. if it was my brother or father who said it, then ti doesn’t matter at all.
March 12th, 2007 on 9:26 pm
Hmm well i call more about what my family thinks then any so called VIP . In actual fact the only VIP in my world are family , i don’t give a damn about ministers ect .Lucky for me im aussie
. Anyways gal enjoy ya week cheerz
lucia: of course our family, our loved ones are the true VIP to us. of course we should care more about what our family said of us than some famous VIP whom we are not related to at all…. but this also depends on who the VIP is and what she/he said/done. tengku adnan is a tourism minister of malaysia, he is someone we, the malaysian public had elected him to his post, he get his salary from us tax payers. for sure what he said will affect us and we should care. for example if our PM, badawi (whom i am not related to at all, not my family, not my friend) were to say "all chinese are compulsive gamblers because they love money so much. they only care about money money and nothing else"… don’t you think, me being a chinese will not get upset? of course i will! so what he said does matter.
oh another thing, if i don’t care about what the VIPs said, then i had better stop blogging because i will have nothing to write about… unless i become like one of ‘those fehmes celebrity’ blogger who writes about what they eat and what they do and the fight they have with their hubby/bf… or concentrate on doing meme only.

It seems to me that the Malaysian people are so much better than their gahman. Good thing otherwise where would the attraction be for outsiders towards Malaysia. I know I admire the my Malaysian friends love of country. And all of them have a great sense of humor. I guess with the gahman this is really needed otherwise you wanna cry all of the time.
lucia: yes indeed, SA. living in a country such as malaysia, we need lots of humour… if not we would go crazy!
