phew! can get connected finally
Post on Jan.29, 2007
at last… now i can get connected at home… after 8 days without internet at home.
my brother finally came to check my modem/pc for me last night… and do you know what? ashamed to say this… my brother said it was all my fault. first of all i did not use the power adpater from the new modem (but used the adapter from my old modem) and secondly i did not install the driver’s modem – that’s why cannot get connected and there i was blaming streamyx. (sorry ah streamyx).
but how do i know i have to install driver? after all the staff at the computer shop where i bought the modem said i don’t have to do anything – just set it up (plug in all the cables). and i did saw him using the modem i bought to surf the net on his shop’s computer… without installing driver (or whatever). he managed to surf the net on his PC with my modem after he configure my user name and password in the modem… just like that. maybe his PC already has the driver. dunno lah. anyway, forget it. now it’s good that things are back to normal – that i can get online at home now.

Heheh, Lucia, yours truly was correct about the suspicion about the modem having given up the ghost.
It takes a long time to die, you know, like currently in the Castro style.
But I don’t understand is why your modem doesn’t have that sort of power supply which is permanently connected at its body at one end, leaving the plug in end with its main body mass to be plugged in as a two pin or three pin plug to any AC outlet? Good thing that the likely difference in DC power output didn’t hurt your new modem.
It’s Modem Driver and not Driver Modem.
The shop PC already had the Driver Files of that modem installed, among other drivers and devices. That’s why. you don’t see them installing any Drivers. Elementary, My dear Watson!
Console yourself in the fact that modem prices has generally dropped since a year ago – used to be around RM160 or thereabout…..you were using a freebie old pass-over one isn’t it?
lucia: yep. wow you remember! good memory. it was a freebie old one from my brother and i had been using it ever since day 1 when i was on streamyx.
about the shop already have he modem driver installed… yes that would be ‘elementary’ to understand but the problem is that why the staff didn’t tell me? don’t point a silly finger at me as the staff there said to me that i don’t have to do anything, just hook it up and can use, as after all she did configure my user name and password in the modem. blame it on the shop then. they should tell me that i need to use the CD to install the driver. well, not everybody are so smart to figure that out!
