3 landslides within 6 days!
yes, haven’t you notice? this latest one, at bukit antarabangsa occurred yesterday – 6 dec. 3 days ago, 4 dec, we heard that 300 people were forced to evacuate two buildings when a landslide caused part of the retaining wall of a car park to collapse in jalan semantan, KL. then on 30 nov., we were shocked when we learned of how two sisters were buried alive when a landslide hit their bungalow in ulu yam perdana near kuala kubu baru, selangor.
see….. 30 nov. to 6 dec. – 6 days. can you imagine that? whatever in the world is happening to our country? greed. pride. lackadaisical. short memory.
greed of both developers and approving authorities. greed for money. pride of the public who want to live on hillside, with good view and looking to it as ‘rich and high’ status. lackadaisical attitude of approving authority/ies who think nothing of approving the hillside development. short memory of everyone! when a landslide happened, the government will come out to sing the same old song ‘no more permits for hillside developments’ – but after a few years, permits will be granted. the public will sing "ayoh. see, living on a hillside dangerous lah. got landslide" – but after a few years, they forgot and want to boast of living luxuriously in bungalows on the hills.
so the bukit antarabangsa landslide claimed 4 lives and 1 is still missing, as malaysiakini reported. immediately, less than 24 hrs mind you, that the tragedy happened, the PM (and also the DPM) came out to say ‘enough is enough. stop the hillside projects’. hmph! you think the projects will be stoped? well… maybe for now… but after some years, everything will be forgotten and it’s back to hillside projects again.
*sigh* so is there a solution to this landslide problem? you tell me. of course there is… but it need a lot of effort and cooperation from all sides… which in a country like ours, is very unlikely… so……….
here is a chart taken from the malaysian insider on previous landslides in our bolehland.
