penang blitz? boo!
Post on Feb.04, 2008
‘penang blitz’ was the heading on the star’s paper but the online version has the heading ‘BN big guns roll into penang‘.
who were the big guns? of course the biggest of all – the PM. then MCA president and his deputy and MIC deputy and secretary general. there were 3 menteri besar too from kedah, perlis and perak.
seems that for the coming 12th general election, penang will be in the limelight as according to the star, it will be the main battleground for BN and the opposition had also declared penang as their frontline state in the election. wow! i’m so proud (?) that my home-state (where i was born, bred and staying in) is going to be the focus of the 12th election.
PENANG: The big guns from the Barisan Nasional descended here yesterday, giving away millions of ringgit in aid to Chinese schools, the poor and non-governmental organisations.
what? so now we see the big guns campaigning? promises… promises… we will do this… we will do that… blah blah blah. should i be impressed? certainly not! don’t think i’m so easily ‘bought’ (ok to use a more harsh word – ‘bribed’
. i hope the people of penangites won’t too. the chinese especially, don’t be deceived by their angpow, please.
Fifteen Chinese schools in the state will receive RM3.8mil in government aid, with SM Phor Tay getting a RM1mil boost for its new building in Sungai Dua.
why only now? why when no election comes by, the schools were neglected? gosh, how nice if election is every year – then every year the chinese will receive big angpow from MCA.
people of penang, don’t be lure by BN’s tricks and propaganda, please! remember a vote for MCA, MIC, gerakan, PPP is a vote for UMNO! say no to BN!

buddhist? not taoist eh?
btw what is meant by a ‘buddhist school’? non buddhists not allowed to attend? the owner is a buddhist? buddha teachings are taught? pictures of buddha can be seen in the school? (like crosses and statues seen in christian schools).

Phor Tay institution was originally a Buddhist missionary society. The school was sponsored by the society, but has always followed a secular curriculum (similar to the Catholic schools in those days).
It became a government funded national-type school years ago, but there is still a link to the Buddhist society. The current building has a small Buddhist temple on its grounds.
Yeah, I’m registered in one of the “battleground” constituencies.
I’m a Rocket-man this time ! Being swindled by Bodowi once is enough.

aiyo, Luce, you sound very annoyed with me – but as a graduate of a Catholic school, is it necessary for you to ask me what is a Buddhist school? ;-)
