yep, you read me right. rape victim sentenced, not the rapist. not only she had been sentenced to jail for six months but she will received 200 lashes too.
where is this happening? well you might have guessed it – saudi arabia. yep, this is justice the arab’s style – the court sentencing victim. oh right, another correct guess, i guess – ’tis syariah law.
A Saudi court sentenced a woman who had been gang raped to six months in jail and 200 lashes — more than doubling her initial penalty for being in the car of a man who was not a relative, a newspaper reported Thursday.
her ‘crime’? she was in a car with a man who was not her relative. initially she was to be given 90 lashes but had the number of lashes increased. why?
According to Arab News, the court said the woman’s punishment was increased because of "her attempt to aggravate and influence the judiciary through the media."
wah! in what way i wonder.
never mind her explanation on how she ‘get in the car with a strange man’ as long as she was in a car with a strange man, she was guilty. oh yeah never mind if she get raped, who told her to be alone in a car with a strange man – just that made the court sentenced her.

Absolutely unbelievable – a rape victim gets severely punished instead ? What kind of justice is this ?
I have heard of judges at the end of a rape trial ticking off the victim for her poor judgement in getting into a risky situation, but this case must be a world record – “the most severe legal punishment meted out to the VICTIM of a crime”

Ahh… One more reason why Malaysia is still one of the best places to live in. At least in Malaysia, rapists get the punishment, not the victim!

No, pelf, you’ll never emerge among the best when you compare yourself with (among) the worse. This is a serous erroneous assumption to promote.
The fact is that often rapists in Malaysia are lightly punished. The System seems to have more and more sympathy for the criminal these days….unless the victim is somebody and connected. The scandal of the Judiciary is not purely with the very top level only.

yep agree with wits0 to your respond. if you remember some rape cases in our country, some of the rapist got light sentence or even get away.

How strange are the laws in Saudi Arabia…
But look closely…there are two (no, three) separate “crimes” according to the eyes of the Saudi judges.
#1) being in the car with a non-relative
#2) the rape itself
#3) speaking out in the media…
She was punished for #1) and her punishment was extended for #3)
She was not punished for being the victim of #2).
Why did the judges punish her for #1 and #3 and not sympathize with her for #2?
Your guess is as good as mine…no, why bother thinking…just blur them all together and you get “islamic syariah law = punish rape victims”
That fits in with our existing prejudices about muslims anways…

“Moderate muslims always can deny that the Soddies version is not true islam. What else can we expect their response to be? Syariah is a barbaric and antiquated law designed to seize power for its advocates. Hey, will women ever (if they can help it) gladly accept being regarded as worth only a quarter of a man? Some educated women(no, no, discount the masochistic ones) should search their own souls for the answer.

BUT it doesn’t punish a woman who got rape…???
