bahasa for unity

back to bahasa malaysia? hmm… but all along i had been using bahasa malaysia.

during our first PM time, the term ‘bahasa malaysia’ was introduced and it was in 1986 when anwar was the education minister that he changed it to ‘bahasa melayu’.

information minister, zam said:

“The Malay language belongs to Malaysians of all races and not just the Malays. The term Bahasa Malaysia would instil a sense of belonging,” Zainuddin told The Star yesterday.

hmm… then i must have a good sense of belonging to malaysia (see, i’m that loyal) as i had never use ‘bahasa melayu’ at all. it had been ‘bahasa malaysia’ to me all along.

meanwhile our DPM had said that the cabinet’s decision to revert back to the use of ‘bahasa malaysia’ should not be turned into a polemic issue.

like the zam-zam guy, he went into the sing-song blah balh unity thingy too:

Najib said the move was also aimed at promoting unity, integration, togetherness and usage of the language among Malaysians.

hmm… i wonder has this sudden decision to revert back to ‘bahasa malaysia’ to do with something er… to discredit anwar? oops. sorry, mr DPM. ok no polemic. so i’ll take that back.
