the zidane-materazzi saga
Post on Jul.14, 2006
ok i just got to blog about this to attract traffic. haha. how pathetic eh.
am talking about the infamous headbut by france world cup player, zidane. seems that technorati record the hot searches for now is ‘zidane’ so if i mentioned zidane’s name, more people will find my blog. ahem!
well this is the hot topic among many people (and the media). there were so many guesses to what had italian player materazzi said to provoke zidane to such extent that he turned into a bull. some said he had used the word ‘terrorist’ on zidane, some said he had insulted zidane’s (or zizou, as he is also known as) mother or sister. materazzi was said to pulled at zidane’s t-shirt and pinched his nipple too!
so much about the theme (or slogan) which was something ‘making friends worldwide’ (right?), these two seemed to badly wanted to made enemies! i guess when it comes to something as important and priceless as the world cup cup, people tend to turn nasty.
of course there tend to be arguments on who was wrong or who was right. many felt that since materazzi provoked zidane, materazzi was wrong. yet many felt that, though provoked, zidane shouldn’t lost his cool to resort to such drastic action on materazzi, which sort of darken his football career. true in a way… which reminds me of the time when the then IGP gave anwar his infamous black eye. many felt that anwar provoked the IGP (like calling him ‘anjing gila’ or something like that) which made the IGP hit him. then the arguments came that thoujgh the IGP was provoked, being a profesionnal, he shouldn’t lost his cool to hit out at anwar. well if people then pity anwar and felt the IGP was wrong, i suppose they would be the same one here to pity materazzi instead of zidane.
anyway, it seems that FIFA had launched a displinary proceedings against materazzi. let’s see how the proceedings goes.
i wonder if he hadn’t head-butt materazzi but instead did something else like punch him on the face or gave him a flying kick, would it be a hot topic? well punching and kicking are sort of normal… but to head-butt? that’s certainly not normal, so i guess that makes it a very much talk about topic. so much so that you see many bloggers blogging on it, and do you know there is a blog specially created for you to write down what you think materazzi might have said. oh and zidane’s head-butt even inspires a song! next, someone might came up with a ‘zidane head-butting materazzi’ game. oh. i think someone already did if i’m not mistaken. it’s like i remember seeing it somewhere but couldn’t remember where.
UPDATED:
funny pics of the head-butt
flash games to download.
latest report says materazzi did mentioned his sister. what i remember reading was that when zidane said something like “if you like my shirt so much, you can take it off me after the match” and materazzi retorted “i’d rather take the shirt off your sister.” ahhh… the saga.

When you strike back you lose. Leave vengeance to God and you will do much better in life. Now other players know what to do when get him red card. What good is he to any team now?
lucia: yes, so it is said that once you ’strike back’ or in other words ‘revenge’, you lose but then people being so human, sometimes we should understand why they react such. not necessarily we support or condone thier act but just try to understand why they do it.

In response to Materazzi’s alleged insult*, Zidane’s mother sez: “I have nothing but contempt for Materazzi and, if what he said is true, then I wants his balls on a platter.”

*”son of a terrorist whore”, of which materazzi denies. He admits insulting however: http://tinyurl.com/nwwke

An insult is an insult and you can’t leave it to God!
lucia: if you said that, this means you are not a religious person.
ahem. i’m not either but i understand what simple american was trying to say. sometimes we need to control our emotions and er… be tolerant of ourselves not to retaliate but hoping that the person will get his dues from god instead. do i make sense?

IMO to be known as something like, “the best player” means just more than just skill but involve full observance of the rule of the game as well. The French Team manager was a sore loser to put the blame on others.
lucia: true. ‘best player’ should not be only good in play but also in character!Â

Zidane – excerpt from Chronwatch, http://tinyurl.com/qgyxq
“His impulsive act – which disbarred him from the closing minutes of a tied game – probably cost his team the World Cup, his country a degree of pride absent for years, and the chance to heal the racial divide that recently saw various communities in France rioting in the streets. In short, Zidane could have healed that divide by uniting France under the banner of a world championship, but he blew it. It was no isolated incident: Zidane had been kicked out of a Champion’s League match for head-butting another player in 2001, as well as stamping an opponent in the 1998 World Cup in response to an “insultâ€. Altogether, he’s been kicked out of 14 games in his career.”
