disabled toilet is public toilet so for all??

i see that this subject, many bloggers (like n305er)had blog on it already. i’m late… yet i do want to blog on it because it is something so ridiculous that need to be highlighted and i need to say something on it.

i first knew about this when i went to suanie’s blog. her post entittled ‘can somebody shut her up?‘. ‘her’ refers to the pink poddle, as suanie put it, or the seemingly popular blogger in singapore, xiaxue.

here, this is part of what the pink poodle said (stolen from suanie’s):

Woah, woah! HOLD ON DUDE. You mean only handicapped people can use handicapped toilets?

How come people have this notion that only the disabled can use facilities for the disabled?

So tell me – our government spent millions of taxpayers’ money to build so many facilities for the physically disabled, and only they are allowed to use it?
………………………
(do click on suanie’s blog to read more what she had to say. i do not wish to link xiaxue’s blog.)

i have to say that i never read xiaxue’s blog. i only get to read hers when someone (whom i read their blogs) link her blog in their blogs. but from what i read of bits here and there, i gather she sounds like a spoilt little rich brat.

ok now on to what she said about toilets for the disabled. it’s really funny that she has the idea that disabled toilets were build with tax-payers’ money, thus, we all, as tax-payers have the right to use the toilet.

isn’t this ridiculous? yes, no doubt the disabled toilets were build with tax-payers’ money but they were build specifically for disabled people… period. just like there were toilets for males and females, you don’t expect a male to go into a female toilet and use the excuse “this female toilet was built with my hard-earned money as a tax-payer so i have a right to use it.”

and just because the disabled toilet is there and it happened that there were nobody inside, it doesn’t mean you have the right to use it.

you know, this reminds me of the traffic light at pedestrian crossing. i notice many motorists often does not stop at the red pedestrian light when they see nobody crossing. to them it is “there is nobody using the pedestrian crossing, why should i be so stupid to stop?”

yeah but haven’t they heard of the law? the law says you must stop at a red light no matter what, so as law abiding citizen, you should.

well, the law doesn’t state that as an abled person, you should not use the disabled toilet… of course who need to be told that? as an understanding, normal, logical, sane person, we know we should not use it. if we need to be told that, if we need a law for that, then that will be the day i weep for the people as that will be the day that ALL these people’s brain had become disabled.

there is one part of what the pink poodle said though, which, sorry to say, i tend to agree to a little extend:

What pisses me off more is when the society at large condones bad behavior when it comes from supposedly piteous people. So what, handicapped have the rights to be unreasonable meh?

there is some truth there. sometimes it seems that because a person is disabled, people tend to give in to her/him more.

i wonder if anybody remember the incident during the feast of st anne’s in bkt mertajam, penang, when a group of disabled persons complained about the priest treating them badly and so on. just because they were disabled, everybody jumped to their side at once; without waiting to hear both sides first, they assumed, they (the disabled persons) were in the right.

ok, i shall not say more as this is a sensitive subject and i do not want to risk offending people.
