i wanna come home

ong boon hua had filed n application in the court fr him to be return to malaysia, his country.

who ong boon hua? what do i care? well, people care… and this is going to be a topic for bloggers and kopi-tiam too if you know ong boon hua is none other than ‘botak chin’ or chin peng as he was the most famous and notorious communist leader long long ago.

yes, a few media like the sun and BBC had reported on this.

i remember sometime back… think more than a year ago, chin peng had already wanted to come home, and there were many debates for and against his return. i had also blog about it here and here when the final announcement was that he was not allowed to come home.

therefore he has no choice but to file for an application in the court i suppose, of which our PM said it is his right to do so. the PM said let the court decide. ahh… yes sure… but you know lah, sometimes we can’t trust the court. (some other unseen hand working behind the court maybe. ha!).

i know some people might say it is not as easy as “ok. let him come home. what’s wrong with that?” because they feel you need to know deeper (read the communist in malaya history?), but someone else did say let bygones be bygones. chin peng is no more a threat now and he is an old man now… can’t you give an old man his wish to be at his homeland?

i know during that time when chin peng first asked to return, seemed that most people who opposed were those whose family had been a victim of chin peng during those communist heydays. they were saying things like chin peng killed their entire family, how can he be forgiven? how could they see him return to malaysia, him being a killer and all that. but for goodness sake, that happened so very long ago… and they still hold grudges? at an old man now? i understand if they hold grudges (i might too) but chin peng is pretty harmless now, and it is harmless to allow him to come back to malaysia!

ok not enough time to yak further as have to leave now. btw, veteran journalist mgg pillai had an interesting article, asking is chin peng a malaysian citizen?

UPDATED 3/9/2005 06:10:00 PM: just manage to access lone’s blog today (after 10 days not being able to) and notice that he had 2 good posts on this subject, with lots of links. go and read ’em!
chin peng: a malaysian in exile?
rtm reacts.

the latter is particularly interesting. quote from that post of lone:
This RTM/Info Ministry effort is probably a knee-jerk reaction to the court application filed by Chin Peng and companions recently. Will RTM provide them the opportunity of telling their side of the story? This is something just not about to happen. One can only wonder how one-sided will the documentary be?
