at microfair
this is another of those kind of personal post, so to those who are not interested, give it a skip ok.
yesterday i went to the star’s microfair (computer fair) and bought myself some things!
i had been looking around for a cordless mouse for a long time, so this time while at microfair, i make sure i’ll get one. there were quite a number of different brands at different prizes. most i saw was at RM80 to RM200! of course i need only a basic simple one so decided to settle for under RM100. saw one at RM85… forgot the name of the brand, but did not bought it yet as decided to look around first. beside, that brand is not so popular and i was going to look for ‘logitech’ brand. however at the 2nd stall i saw this ‘a4tech’ brand wireless mouse which cost RM85 and was attracted to it. decided to buy the ‘petite’ one as i like small! (well to complement me maybe since i’m petite too. haha). yes, finally settled on this perfect fit petite wireless optical miniature mouse, model RFSOP-19 (RP1519). i choose this one, beside it being petite, was because it uses alkaline battery, a non rechargeable battery. the others that i saw earlier all uses rechargeable battery. i don’t like rechargeable battery for the mouse, since i’m going to use the mouse almost all the time, so if i have to charge the batteries, then no mouse for me to use, how ah??
anyway after i bought this a4tech mouse, i suddenly saw the logitech wireless mouse and it was only at RM65! arrghh! why didn’t i see it earlier!
anyway i haven’t install my new ‘baby’ yet. this is because, believe it or not, i can’t get to open the battery compartment on the mouse! sound silly eh? it seems that i always have problem with opening battery compartment of gadgets! i try using a scissors to pry it open but quickly stop myself as afraid i might break it! the instruction booklet is useless. there is an instruction on how to open the battery compartment, with pictures but the pictures are so blur i can’t see a thing! guess i either have to spend hours trying to open it or ask a friend to open it for me.
then beside the mouse, i also bought a spare battery for my casio exilim digicam. wow… very expensive… RM180! the salesman said, normal price is over RM200 (dunno true or not). i need a spare battery because i’m very paranoid that my digicam battery might die off on me while i was in the midst of taking photos. my digicam does consume a lot of batter… since the display is huge, and further as i’m a beginner, i had/will ‘play around’ with it. beside the battery, i also got a tripod. only RM8.00.
i also enquire about some PDA/PPC, as i do intend to buy one, but i only need a basic one. i enquire for one that cost less than RM1000, and the staff (of house of notebook) recommended me one of the toshiba pda. i remember seeing this toshiba pda advertise in paper before. er… i forgot the model.
however i was more interested in HP iPAQ PPC, as to me HP is a better known name for PPC, but the staff told me the toshiba PPC which cost about RM800 has a higher processor than the HP PPC which cost about RM900 has a lower processor so it will be more worthwhile to get the toshiba. there’s one HP iPAQ model, h1930 that cost only RM988, which i’m interested in. but i think if it is better to go for higher processor i guess i’d better take toshiba.
i did toyed with the idea of getting either a palm or a PPC. the tungsten E palm cost less than RM1000. but in the end i figure i prefer PPC as it uses windows OS, and further to have microsoft words/excell is one of my requirement.
i was shown a demo of the toshiba PPC and i looks quite good. then i thought since there will be a talk on PDA, i’d better go listen to the talk before deciding on buying one.
i try my luck at spining the wheel for prizes but poor unlucky me didn’t not get the jackpot prize. to be eligible for this spin, one has to print out the ‘spin coupon’ from the star website after an ‘exercise’ of locating certain letters. shh! don’t tell anyone but i cheated. i had a go at the spin twice as i printed out the coupon twice! but i only got some lousy prizes. first time it was a clear plastic photo holder, then second time it was an organiser (paper form! like a diary)…. whiich i don’t see the need for it of course since i’d rather have an electronic organiser (PDA!!).
i attended two of the talks held at the same place. the first one on ‘digital imaging’ was quite good (2 hours). though the talk was kind of basic, of which lots of things i already knew about, still there were some new things i learned.
immediately after this talk, i went next door to attend the talk on pda. was quite disappointed with this talk because i expect the talk to be about pda in general, like explaining to us the kind of pda available, what a pda does, the many features of pda, how to choose a pda to suit us, etc. but instead the talk concentrate on one product – the new xda II pda which is touted to be the best because it is a pda cum mobile phone… and camera too! i don’t need such a high end (and expensive pda) so not interested at all.
well one day, i will buy a PPC i’m sure. but not for now, as now purse seems to be drying up. er… anyone wants to give me a PPC as christmas present? 🙂
