talk to a machine?

“hi! sorry i’m not available now. please leave a message after the beep, and i’ll get right back to you.”

sound familiar? of course! it’s the voicemail or answering machine you get to hear when you dial the phone of someone who is sorry that s/he is not available.

what do you usually do when you heard the voicemail? did you leave a message? as for me, no!! never! i hate talking to a machine! i feel so silly talking to a machine. and so weird! in fact, what i usually do when i hear a voicemail, i will mumble my favourite curse word – “shit!”. so if anyone of you heard on your voicemail, a female voice that goes “shit!” it might be me. haha.

although i hate speaking to a machine but i have the voicemail activated on my handphone. well, if others don’t mind talking to a machine, let them leave a message for me then.

anyway, i am considering disabling the voicemail. why? because i don’t like to return call to that person. and why? because i have to pay when i call lah. easy logic, see. and you know what? pay twice! first i have to pay when i call my telco’s mailbox, then i have to pay when i call that person who leave a message asking me to call back. ayoyo! now i know the voicemail was invented by telcos to suck your money dry.

i figure if the person who calls me, really has something important to say to me, s/he will call back, and not wait for me to call. and after all i don’t always check my voicemail too, so even if there’s something important for me to call back, i might missed it. another thing is having a voicemail, makes me tell lies at times. haha. how so? you see, sometimes even after listening to the voicemail that so and so ask me to call her/him back, i didn’t, then when that so and so person calls me and said s/he left a voice message why didn’t i call back, i will lie and say i didn’t receive her/his voice message. haha.

on second thought, maybe instead of doing away with my voicemail, i could modify it to thus:
“hi! you have reached my voicemail. you can leave a message BUT please don’t ever ask me to call you back. if it is something important, you call me back until you get me.”

now where’s my handphone?
