are they so desperate?
they… as in gomen in kelantan. desperate for what? for the orang asli to convert to islam.why desperate? willing to throw away RM10,000, together with perks like accommodation, a four-wheel drive vehicle and RM1000 monthly allowance. for whom? for muslim missionaries… if they marry an orang asli.
yes, apparently the kelantan gomen (i.e. PAS) was disappointed with the missionaires’ effort in converting orang asli to islam, therefore they were willing to offer those rewards to the missionaries.
(marry her and instantly get richer by RM10,000 with other perks thrown in. picture taken from tidaktahu.)
of course the gomen only stated “if they marry an orang asli woman” and not if they convert the woman but that is because we all know that in islam, once you are married to a muslim man/woman, you are bound to become muslim. unlike other religions where the partner is free to choose their religion (remain in their own religion OR follow the spouse’s religion).
you would have thought that some MP in BN would question such a move… yes, one did… MP from galas, saufi deraman… BUT instead of asking stuffs like – whatever happened to doing your work out of love and genuine concern to spread the faith, because you believe strongly in the faith and wants to share your faith, hoping others would take it up. now, with the rewards thrown in, the missionaries might be doing it FOR the reward, not because they truly want to spread their faith willingly and with love – he asked instead:
what about the muslims in the country? why were they not given such perks when they married chinese and indians? aren’t they malaysians like the orang asli?
whoa! scary!
UPDATED: suhakam, the malaysian human rights group says money incentives to convert orang asli an abuse of power.
