on CNY eve (mass and reunion)

ah, so this is the ‘chai’ (door banner) that i mentioned about in this post, now hanging in front of our door. it is not very clear since the grill door is blocking it but you already have a good look at it at that earlier post of mine, which incidentally until now, i have nobody to translate the chinese characters for me yet.

ok, so yesterday, the eve of CNY, we had our steamboat reunion dinner. 7 of us – my mother, my sister, my brother and his wife and two children.

we had so much to eat. look at the dishes here – nearly 30 different kind, mind you, including the hakka’s speciality ‘yong tau foo’ (bean curd stuffed with meat). then we also had ‘lor bak’ and steamed chicken. wow! i stuffed myself with the food until i cannot move. haha. exaggeration… but not too far from the truth either. i actually don’t like steamboat, but every year for reunion dinner, i don’t mind taking it of course. i would have prefer tom yam soup but most of my family members don’t want the tom yam soup.

anyway, i was so happy that my most favourite food – prawns… and big ones too – were there. see the next picture, where the big fat prawns were? well, you can bet, that’s where i sit… right next to the prawns. the prawns were very tender and fresh. well, one prawn cost RM1.50 each!

after dinner, we get ready to go to church for the CNY mass. my brother and his family went to the mass at the cathedral of the holy spirit at green lane, while i together with my mum and sister went to the mass at church of our lady of sorrows (OLS) in macalister road.

the cathedral would be nearer to where we are (bkt jambul/bayan baru) but i had to go to the OLS church because it was my duty to commentate (the english part – the mass was bi-lingual, more on mandarin of course). all of us received an angpow and 2 oranges from the priest after mass! then we were treated to some kueh-kueh and CNY cookies outside the church.

well, it was an interesting and fruitful CNY eve with the reunion dinner and mass. i’ll be back to work on the 5th day of CNY – thursday.
