the malam bangsa malaysia do
the malam bangsa malaysia do went well. about 100 participants turned up for the forum. although i brought my camera, i did not manage to get a single shot because i was too busy running in and out, checking on the food and also at times at the registration counter. i only managed to catch the end part of the forum and some Q&A part.
as i was in charge of the food, i had to see that food turned up in time… which was not the case! that was what made me even more worried, not being able to follow the forum whole-heartedly. i told the caterer to come at 4.30 for tea but they only came at 5.10. then told them to come for dinner at 8.00, they came at 8.20. i had to call the caterer a number of times to check whether he’s coming or not!
luckily the good food made up for the lateness of the food. for tea, there was this special kind of like curry puff in triangular shape. very tasty. for dinner, there were briyani rice, chicken sammah, tau kua pedas, dalcha, mixed vege and mee goreng. the caterer specifically pointed out to me it was ‘the best fragrant briyani rice i specially pick for you’. haha. at first it was tomato rice but he changed to the briyani rice. there was so much food left! see, we had more than enough as we want to make sure everyone are fed well!
we all had our dinner while watching fahmi’s documentary ’sepuluh tahun sebelum merdeka’. it was a nice show indeed and i admire fahmi’s talent in making the film! there was a Q&A with fahmi after the show. being the shy timid person i did not asked him any Qs but i got the opportunity to ask him on one to one when we, the organising team (with some other participants, including 2 of the speakers) went to the beach-front for some R&R (as haris put it) after the whole thing finished.
it was nice to meet prominent human rights lawyer malik imtiaz and haris ibrahim face to face and also the others like SK of mageP’s lab , tony yew and the talkative most friendly zorro! oh, glad to meet cheryl too who helped helen ang in the registration. helen ang is a columnist for malaysiakini and i had enjoyed all her articles in malaysiakini, thus i was glad to have met her. oh ya, a big thank you to her for giving me a lift home in the middle of the night!
oh yeah, you can read all about the do in haris ibrahim’s blog. he has some pictures there. sheih @ kickdefella was there armed with his pro DSLR camera, so i hope in time he will put up some pictures in his blog. (he did not stay for the dinner though). you can also read about the event in sk thew’s blog.
the KL organisers did a good job indeed and i was glad to be able to offer my help. i enjoyed myself very much and thank the KL team for bringing the malam bangsa malaysia to penang! syabas!

Lucia,
So sorry that you missed the forum.
When we go up to Ipoh, please come there as our guest and don’t get out of your seat until the forum is done.
We could not have pulled of Penang without you.
God bless.

The four of us agreed that the Penang do was more participatory, more dynamic and much more impactful. The audience were really into the forum judging from the inputs they expressed. The quality response and comments that come out of the Penang audience proved that they were in sync with the messages of the elite group of speakers.
However, this would not have been possible had it not been for your tireless effort. I only met Lucia once in KL when she was one of the organisers of a Bloggers do in Subang Jaya. I have been a visitor to her blogs before that and was therefore happy to put a face to the nick. When we decided to head north, I at once volunteered Lucia to coordinate the event for us. From day one she has been indefatigable, pushing us for updates, queries and status report. She communicated so often because she did not want to anything to chance. I told one our KL guys that if you are in a stressful situation you would not want to have Lucia as your boss. Her attention to detail was just unbelievable to the point of asking how many marker pens we need. ANY OF YOU GUYS OUT THERE READING THIS COMMENT LOOKING FOR A PERSONAL ASSISTANT……LUCIA IS YOUR CANDIDATE. (I do head-hunting but in this case, she is yours….I will not charge.) AND YOU BETTER MAKE YOUR UP YOUR MINDS IN QUICK-TIME.
Whilst Lucia did a lot of leg-work to kick-start the event in Penang she also had assistance from Helen Ang and Cheryl. I met Helen Ang for the first time that night. Will the real Helen Ang please stand up! This unassuming lady is far from the fire she pens as a columnist at Malaysiakini. Cheryl I met a couple of times when she made journey to KL for a number of All Blogs events. She is reading for her Masters and blogging I believe is one of the subjects she is defending in her thesis. In fact, she came straight from the exam hall to the forum. TO THE THREE OF YOU, MUCH THANKS….WE WOULD NEVER HAVE HAD A SUCCESSFUL EVENING WITHOUT YOU. Much cheers and God love you.

too bad i missed the forum. perhaps i was too worried or panicky over the food so can’t stay long in the room to hear the forum. yep, it would be nice if at the next do, i can sit still in the chair without any worry to listen to the forum from beginning to end.

haha. say, you are right you know… about me being detailed and a ‘pusher’ and a good personal assistant. i had been, and still is, a secretary for a few church organisations that i’m in… so it’s routine work for me (and used to pushing for details
to all
thanks for the vote of confidence and appreciation to the 3 of us ladies in penang. you guys too contributed to the successful event of course. together… we unite, divided, we fall… we ALL unite together for the success of the event. 3 cheers to ourselves!
yip yip hooray! yip yip hooray! yip yip hooray!
