BM and subjects in school

ok i’m excited that tomorrow i’ll be blogging in our national language, bahasa malaysia (BM) for the merdeka blogger project. it had been a long time i haven’t use BM so i guess my BM must be a little rusty.

when i was in school, i got C3 for BM, consider quite okay since many of my friends got only a pass. well, when in school, my favourite subjects were BM and english. being a lazy bum in school, it’s not surprising, because people said that, BM and english, being language subjects you don’t have to study so hard. i mean like there are not boring facts to remember and digest like sejarah and ilmu alam.

ilmu alam, you have to remember the capital of countries, the size and population of countries and so on. arggh! facts! facts! sejarah was even worst when you have to remember when a sultan was born and when he died, and when a king conquer a country and so on… all those facts of figures.

so BM and english were the easiest to learn, no need to remember what size a country is, what year so and so was born, how long, how big and all that sorts.

my worst subject in school was mathematics and accounts (secondary school). do you know from std. 5 onwards to form 5, i never passed my maths exam before? really. true. what a nice red pattern it made on my report card, every term through, every year through… same place, one row red marks.

my maths was so terrible that my sister had to tutor me in maths when i was in secondary school. more often than not, she was impatient at my slowness and most of the time we’ll end up quarrelling with me in tears! haha.

coming back to the subject of BM, after i left school, i have not been using BM at all except of course at government service counters. writing in BM? occasionaly only when i need to write government letters. however in the year 1990 when i was working in an architect’s firm, i used BM a lot when my boss needed me to translate government letters from BM to english and vice versa. but those were simple letters, usually arranging for appointments or attaching plans.

ok as i’m not so good at writing BM, i guess i won’t be writing on politics or social issues since writing on these subjects would be a bit difficult with BM. i guess then i’ll have to use BM for some personal writings. i already have in mind what to write on one topic… but who knows, i might blog on more than 1 topic.
