show some consideration

quoted from mack in one of his recent post:
“It was widely reported in Malaysia, of people running down the stairwells in fear during a recent earthquake that struck off Nias Island. What if you were in a wheelchair?”
this reminds me of the time when the nias earthquake happened, at some places, the authorities concerned were so proud to claim something like “in a few minutes, we had evacuate everyone.” all they did were to be present with their fire-engine or what-they-have and with a loud hailer announced to all in the high-storey flats to evacuate.

good and fine. a warning. they did their part. “please leave your building now! this is an emergency! everyone must evacuate!” … but everyone? what about the old people or the disabled who can’t, like the others rushed out at the sound of the loud-hailer “evacuate! evacuate!”.

what to do in such situation? it would help then if the building owner/manager had drawn up an evacuation plan… a plan where they’ll see to it that old immobile persons and disabled persons in wheelchair (those staying alone) will be evacuated safely. people who are very upaya should show some concern to those who are kurang upaya. this is what peter tan requested from his building manager, and he had wrote a letter to the building manager, cc to our CM and other authorities.

the letter was fist written in august 2004. imagine that. coming to one year and still nothing had been done. because of this, peter’s good friend and fellow blogger, mack seemed very concerned and decided to highlight peter’s plight, and he had created this little banner for bloggers to put in their blog.

show that you care too. get the banner code from mack’s blog and put it up in your blog/website.

peter said recently in comment of someone’s blog – “blogging is a powerful tool. don’t underestimate it.”

let’s see the power of us bloggers working. who knows if all of us choose to highlight peter’s plight, someone may take note and something fruitful might come out of it, or as a commenter suggested in peter’s blog, that we all flood the CM’s email box with our appeal. peter or mack… up to you to take this up. remember i’m sure, many bloggers out there are ever willing to show their consideration.
