er… actually both are seperate events – there’s the DAP dinner and there’s the fireworks… but i wouldn’t be wrong anyway to say there were fireworks in the DAP dinner i attended.

merdekaBB2

on saturday i attended the jalan tembikai branch DAP dinner at city restaurant, bukit mertajam. the speakers were jeff ooi, chong eng and hannah yeoh. prof. ramasamy was suppose to be one

of the speakers too but he didn’t turn out. liew chin tong was the moderator. i had heard all of them speak before but not hannah yeoh. had heard so much about this young petitie MP from subang so was eager to see her and hear her talk. well she did not disappoint me. she was pretty and sweet and a good talker. i taken a photo with her too.

apart from othet things, she mentioned something about seeing teoh beng hock just one day before he died. oh and she said people label her as ‘the second chong eng’ just because, like chong eng, she had an indian husband. she’s only 30 but she said she is not the youngest in parliament – there is this nik nasmi who is in mid 20s. hmm… i didn’t know nik is so young. i had met nic twice – once when he was in penang when we will together for a forum – that was years back before he was a MP.

the dinner was themed ‘change we did. what next?’ thus the speakers talk about what are the plans of PR. i don’t quite remember what the speakers said except i remember jeff ooi was talking about one change they want to see – that PR will capture sabah and sarawak in the next election. actually i did jot down some points on my dell PDA but somehow or other i forgot to save what i wrote.

liew chin tong was selling his book ‘speaking for the reformasi generation’ (a collectionof articles and essays from 2003 -2009) at RM35 per book. i like reading liew’s articles, like the ones that appears in the malaysian insider and sometimes malaysiakini but to me RM35 is a big steep. my friend H, bought the book and he immediately lend it to me to read first as he said he has no time to read now. wow! good for me!

i had wanted to go for another DAP dinner on sunday at han chiang but i woke up with a headache and had to give up on the dinner. what a pity as i heard one of the speaker was nizar, the legal MB of perak. haven’t seen him or heard him speak before.

merdekaBBok so where did the fireworks came in? it was a merdeka celebration in our area community centre (bayan baru). i wouldn’t have gone as i believe there’s nothing to celebrate since it is a 1 black malaysia but since the event was happening right at my doorstep, i went for the fun of it (also for the food. haha). even if i didn’t go, i can still hear the going-ons (speakers, singing) clearly from my flat. i wonder why this time the committee invited the ‘losers’ BN people instead of the present exco and MP. wong kam hong from BN, ex MP for bayan baru and wong mun hoe from BN ex exco for pantai jerejak were invited. (now it is MP zahrain from PKE and exco sim tze tzin from PKR).

well we were given a coupon for food and lucky draw; at the same time was given a flag and a 1malaysia car sticker from telekom. since the committee themed this event sort of a healthy event, the only presentations were different type of excercises, namely tai chi, xiang gong, line dance and senamaerobic. after all these were over, it was makan time. food consists of a packet of fried bee hoon with a curry puff and kueh talam. there were plenty of drinks. first before food, free cold vico drinks were given away. oh mineral water was given to us too when we collected our coupons. then there was also hot tea available.

there was a firework display after the food. as it is always not easy to take shots of fireworks, i use my digicam ‘fireworks’ settings to shot the fireworks. well, they turned out not bad eh?
