malays unite + fight for islam = 1malaysia
… that is according to our dear PM, najib.
shouldn’t it be ‘malaysians unite + fight for all races = 1malaysia’?
well, that was what he hinted at when he mentioned (from malaysiakini):
Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak said many people, especially those from the Malay NGOs, are disappointed that unity talks between Umno and PAS have failed to materialise.
“It looks like many Muslims are of the same opinion because unity and efforts to fight for Islam are an obligation,” he told reporters today.
“When we follow the obligation, we get blessings for whatever we do. If Islam promotes that, then we should follow its way. Don’t let politics (political differences) become the obstacle (against) achieving this.”
but of course he denied it:
He also rejected claims that the unity government concept would be against his 1Malaysia concept.
“It does not mean that we would reject non-Muslims because their priorities will always be protected by the government,” he said.
notice how he brings in religion now? he’s living up to playing the 3 R’ card – race, royalty, religion!
how does he knows that many people, especially the malay NGOs are disappointed that the unity talk between umno and PAS does not materailise? who is he to talk about not getting politics involved in this unity talk?
He stressed that he is still open to the idea of holding unity talks with PAS as this is “beyond politics” and “a question of our own importance”.
beyond politics? don’t make me laugh, mr PM!
a question of our own importance? who are the ‘our’? the malays in umno and PAS? what about the importance of the other races? is this what your 1malaysia is about – promoting the importance of unity between the malays?
Today, Najib said that any move to strengthen Islam should be encouraged, in what was an obvious move to appeal to the concept of Islamic brotherhood within PAS.
The prime minister believed, however, that the country’s multi-racial nature would not be affected by a more united Malay-Muslim community.
(malaysian insider)
you are telling me!! then what about a more united chinese or tamil community? what if MCA decides to have a unity talk with DAP? will the malays jumped up especially the umnoputera? why, i believe some umnoputera would even shout “kick MCA out of BN!” if that happened. why? well… because it is political!! and you are telling me that your persistence in wanting the unity talk between umno and PAS is not political? haha. haha.
thing is, when the unity talk was mooted during PAS’s general assembly, most people, non malays especially who voted for PAS in the GE12 were very angry – why want to unite with the enemy? they had voted for PAS because they hated umno and now PAS wants to unite with umno? they felt very betrayed.
if there is to be any unity talk at all, it ought to be a unity talk between ALL the parties (thus all the races). PAS came to its sense in the end and spelled out that if there is to be a unity talk with umno, the other PR component parties must be roped in too BUT as you can see, umno close an ear to this condition and hold on to the ‘unity of malays’. is this the kind of 1malaysia our PM advocate?
NOTE: i refused to have the photo of our PM (solo) up on my blog. tak boleh tahan tengok dia punya muka! remember he’s involved in the altantuya’s case and he has yet to clear his name, though he had swear on the koran he has nothing to do with it – if so, then why didn’t he sue those who had stated that he is involved, including the foreign media.
NOTE 2: today i’ll be at bayan baru old town white coffee for our subtle, silent, peaceful ‘bubar DUN perak’ (dissolve perak state assembly) protest. join us, if you are free.
UPDATED: interestingly enough, after i blog on this, hours later, i read in the malaysian insider that lim kit siang had exactly the same view as me!
