my kopi-o ‘1blackmalaysia’ session at old town
Post on Jun.19, 2009
yessiree! look! that’s me, with my friend, christina. see, i had kopi-o (not their famous white coffee). well it was my first time so must take kopi-o lah to live up to its campaign.

continue reading to see more pictures.

when christina and i arrived (about 9.10pm), we saw a few black-clad young people here and there spread out. we took a table and order some sandwich and of course my kopi-o. then we wonder were there others? if yes, were they gathered some other corner?

well, while we were going to tuck in our food… surprise!… a young man approached us. i said to him that his face is familiar. then he introduced himself as YB sim tze tzin, ADUN for pantai jerejak (my area). he sat down at our table and talked to us. he then told us that there were a group of black-clad people gathered at the foyer and he said later he will called them all inside. he was very friendly and easy to talk too. ask us about our jobs and when i told him i’m a blogger, he asked the name of the blog, i said “aiya. not famous one. mental jog”. i was surprised he said that he heard of the name before because someone mentioned it to him. well, just ‘heard of’ lah, not read!
anyway, later he left our table and called the rest from outside (foyer) to come in and we all sat at the round table in a row. there were some other people from PKR… a malay guy who is a blogger too (he told me his blog but i forgot) and who took a lot of photos. the chinese malaysiakini reporter and sun reporter, husna yusop were there too and here you see them interviewing YB sim (seen left, head only. centre is the sun reporter).
YB sim was saying that the perak crisis is something everybody should be concerned of and he was glad that there is this 1blackmalaysia campaign to support the call for dissolving the perak state assembly.

dalbinder (why was he wearing bright orange eh?) who was blogging live, was at our table too. after some time, he suddenly discovered that wi-fi was off. hmm… did the management switch it off? there were a few others with notebook too. during the photo-taking session, christina made a quick count of heads and she said there were about 40 of us. wow! great to see so many turned up. well dalbinder blog that there were some special branch people outside the cafe but i didn’t notice them.
here is a pictures of the crowd holding up the paper ‘bubar DUN’. you see in the foreground an old man… another old man was next to him. and there were some old ladies at the other corner too! see, young and old joined in the campaign!

later on as some of us, including me, said that the paper should have ‘perak’ in it after ‘DUN’, someone took back all the paper to write ‘perak’ on it and here is the other shot with ‘perak’ added in. foreground 3 persons holding the sign – left is YB sim and right is christina.

shu shi from suaram turned up after 10.00pm and joined our table. together with husna, dalbinder and YB sim’s personal assistant, victor, we had a good chat on various issues.
well it had been fun sipping coffee and chit chatting… thus i’ll be back next thursday. come join me! remember to wear black!
(note: anil netto also blog on this via dalbinder)

What will causing discomfort to other patrons, showing disrecpect to public order and stretching the short handed police do any good for society ?
What tangible good has this done? What has it done for the economy to help our poor?
What outcome have you achieved besides cheap publicity akin to jumping off the northpole with a proton saga.. both are nice to see but are as useful as selling a refridgerator to an eskimo..

I hope that you will change the background color. It is really hard to read and quite tiring.
Cheers and keep up the mental!!

glad to hear that you’ll be there next week.

this campaign is all over malaysia lah. i’m sure in perak they have it too. we heard of it being held many places in KL and selangor too.

how do you know we were causing discomfort to other patrons? you were not there! in fact some of the patrons were quite amused at us.
showing disrespect to public order? in what way, pray tell me. and the police… who the hell told them to turn up? we were not breaking the law. it is the police themselves who wanted to waste time to spy on us just having our coffee instead of concentrating on crimes like snatch thieves and mat rempit.
cheap publicity? who is thinking of publicity? we NEVER invite the press, nor do we invite VIP – they themselves turned up as concerned individuals. and the police too.. they themselves want to turn up, giving us the publicity, of which we hope they won’t turn up!
what are we going to achieve? it’s a way of subtle protest lah. we can’t have candelight vigil (mata-mata will tangkap us), we can’t gathered in front of the perak state assembly building (illegal gathering, again the hard-working police will be there). so this is the best way of showing our protest, exercising our rights to freedom of expression.
ROTFL!! very funny your reference to the poor!

er… what do you mean the background colour hard to read and tiring? you meant the black background? but that is not the actual background! the black background is when the page is not loaded yet. the background i have here is white in colour and the text is thus very easy to read.
mutu
right on!! more power to the 1black malaysia campaign!
