a shameful history of ISA
Post on Oct.20, 2008
i went to the 21st anniversary of operation lalang event organised by GMI and AI at about 12.15pm. took a lot of pictures. the exhibition was fantastic! the organisers spent so much time and creativity in it, so i thought to share with you many photos (i took 28, here i share 1/2 – 14). did you go? shame on you if you didn’t (except with very good reason), especially those who had faithfully attended the weekly friday vigil at dewan. you are suppose to give support to GMI! you are suppose to bring along friends!
i left at 1.00pm as i have other appointments but i promised to come back at 8.00pm. however, about near 8.00pm when i called my friend to ask if she was still there and i will be going there soon, i was surprised she told me ‘sudah habis’! ended already! what? i thought it was suppose to end at 10.00pm. she told me the organisers decided to end early as there was poor response. what a pity. the whole thing was great to me. see lah, you, why didn’t you go!! ![]()
beside the exhibition, there was a band and video screening, and there were stalls set up with sales of books, t-shirts, anti ISA badges, stickers and so on. of course the petition to abolish ISA was also there for people to sign, including the deepevali cards for people to send to the hindu detainees.
ok here are the pictures. if you were not there, go through the pictures (with captions) and consider it like you were there.
the first thing that caught my eye was this…. a life-size figure of a ‘black’ man on all four! at a glance it looks like a toyol! it was made of styrofoam and suppose to represent an ISA detainees (i think). i did took a close up picture of this ‘black’ man. oh i took this just after the opening time so it was not really completed yet… so i notice after i check from the blog of mustafa annuar who also made a post and have this picture.

a shed was erected right in front of starbucks, where all activities were going on. this banner was hung in front of the shed (which is opposite starbucks). the young man in red you see here is stanley, my colleauge and MC for the day. oh, this is the banner where we put in our signatures at one of the friday weekly vigil (11 oct).
you see my signature here? i circled it up and put down the date ‘oct. 2008′.

chairs were arranged for people to sit and watch the band performance and the video.

on the left is where the exhibition board were and straight ahead and also on right (hidden) were those stalls as i mentioned in the beginning.

and now the exhibits…. newspaper cuttings of some say on ISA.

what some people say about ISA….
cute cartoons!

pictures of some ISA activities/events.

newspaper cuttings of ISA arrest.

i like this. the history of operation lalang. part A – events leading to operation lalang and part B – launch of operation lalang.

… but i like this best. names of all the detainees arranged according to groups of what they were detained for. it was very creatively done as you’ll notice the ‘chains’ and they were all made up of newspaper rolled up! (see next close up photo). the lone green group… er… individual you see on the right is none other than RPK – under ‘alleged insulted islam’. the 2 names linked to RPK (white) are 2 chinese names with ‘alleged counterfaith’ (what does that means, i wonder). right in the centre is the group ‘alleged jemaah islamiah’.

close up of the ‘newspaper link’. this one says ‘darul islam sabah from tawau’. don’t know what that means. what were they detained for? something like jemaah islamiah – another so called islamist terrorist group?

I couldn’t make it ‘cos I have a bad headache during the afternoon. Also lucky I didn’t die-die go at 9 pm as planned or else, wasted my trip if they finished at 8pm.

Terima kasih Lucia for this opportunity for all Malaysians to see the Anti ISA Campaign in action.
Keep up the good work and one day the Rakyat will be free of the tyranny and the injustice of the ISA…..imagine the pain of the children and family loved ones of the prisoners of conscience ! esp if they are innocent
or if guilty-guilty of wanting justice & fairplay for the good of the wider Community.
REFORMASI !

i checked with stanley and he said they wrapped things up at 8.00pm because the persons involved in the debate pulled out at the last moment. i too was about to go back to the event after the 6.00pm mass at SFX (thinking it will end at 10.00pm). luckily i called up my friend first (who were there earlier at 3.00pm).

thanks!

After Thanksgiving Sale…
