TAK NAK ISA! MANSUHKAN ISA SEKARANG!
these were the words printed boldly on the balloon you see here, which was one of the ‘souvenir’ available at the vigil last night.
friday’s night vigil see about 150 persons turning up despite the rain which started about 7.30pm… (quite heavy at that time) and stop only about near 9.00pm… the time when the vigil was to start.
this time they had two speakers – ramakrishnan, aliran president and chong eng, MP for bukit mertajam (last picture). the organiser (GMI) also throw open to the ‘public’ (those who turned up) to come up to speak… and 2 persons did went up… and what a surprise. one of them, a U student, who is the son of my MAFREL member friend, recited a short poem he composed, fulled of gusto. the other, a young lady, sang a song ‘you raised me up’ dedicating to RPK.
there was a minute of silence to pay respect to those detained in ISA… followed by a minute of ‘noise’!! heh. one of the GMI member lead the crowd in chanting slogans for one minute! apart from the usual ‘mansuh mansuh mansuh ISA’ and ‘hidup hidup hidup rakyat’, we also chanted ‘people’s power’ in 4 languages. it was fun. oh there were also singing of 3 songs all together – suara rakyat, barisan rakyat and one man’s hands.
as next friday will be the last week of the weekly vigil at dewan sri pinang, the organisers urged the crowd to bring more people next week. they hoped to see maybe 1000 people! anyway, the weekly vigil will end but of course that doesn’t mean activities on the call to abolish ISA will stop. there will be other type of activities coming up, like a day-long activity at the caring society complex on somewhere end of october. watch out for the announcement.
