no national unity without malay unity
Post on Apr.13, 2008
that was what a future king told us. (picture)
i first read about this in aisehman’s blog. CnP from aisehman’s blog:
Read this in Malaysiakini – Tengku Faris: Non-Malays should not seek equality:
Kelantan Crown Prince Tengku Faris Petra said today that Malays had been coerced into giving non-Malays citizenship and the latter should therefore not seek equality or special treatment.
He said this during his keynote speech at a forum titled “Malay unity is the core of national unity” organised by the newly formed Barisan Bertindak Perpaduan Melayu in Kuala Lumpur today.
As a Malay, I apologise to all non-Malays that there are among my fellow Malays those who hold such views.
It is disgusting, even if these people have a right to their opinions, and a right to express them.
But don’t worry. Come the next elections, we shall make sure that those who hold similar views will not even come close to forming the federal government.
That’s the only lesson they can understand.
this is my comments at his blog:
thanks aisehman.
as a non malay i’m sad to hear this.
“malays coerced into giving non malays citizenship.”
coerced? that is a very strong word. we non malays don’t need anyone to give us citizenship. if we are born here (i was!), means we are malaysians already, thus automatically we have malaysian citizenship.“malay unity is the core of national unity.”
this sounds like ketuanan melayu at work, which a number of my malay friends are against too. malek hussein, MAFREL chairman (also the RM3 bil ISA man) had said he didn’t want ketuanan melayu but what he wants is keadilan melayu.i can understand and don’t mind the special privileges of the malays e.g. post of PM must be malays, malay language as official language and islam as official religion and even NEP – FOR THE POOR MALAYS but i feel that the malays should NOT treat us as 2nd class citizens, should not lord themsevles over us non malays (malay supremacy – the ketuanan melayu, see). yes aisheman you use the word ‘disgusting’. it is indeed disgusting to think that there are people who think they are high above other people.
i think i am going to rant about this in my blog tomorow. so sad. 50 years and we still have malays with this kind of thinking. *mad*
after reading the other comments not only in aisehman’s but in maverick and ktemoc, i would like to change my last sentence to:
50 years and we still have umnoputera with this kind of thinking.
btw, i stop short of putting the heading as ‘the crown prince is a racist’ because i know that will get me into deep shit as there will bound to be some people who jumped up and accused me of being biadap to the loyalty. anyway this could not be exactly what comes out from his mouth. i hope not! i hope some of the commenters were right that the speech was prepared by some umno ultras. oh and as this is a sensitive issue, i hope to see intelligent, rational, matured commenters here, like aisehman, not racist commenters like one anonymous commenter with a vulgar handle who keep saying stuffs like "you orang tiong san, balik cina!".
we are all anak bangsa malaysia! we ALL unite to form national unity!

The Dude has just thrown the spanner into the works just to bolster up the BN/UMNO ideology.

For a moment, I thought the speech was made by one of the UMNO ultras with all its rhetoricsms. But coming from a royalty? This is shocking and I thought these blokes are supposed to be apolitical. I guess the crown prince must be an UMNO member after all. Since he has thrown his lot behind UMNO, I guess he will be the next target for many bloggers to comment on. Sorry dude, you asked for it. It is sad he just doesn’t have the finesse of their royal highnesses of Perak and Selangor.

HRH is an adult. He is responsible for what he reads. While a constitutional monarch or regent is required to read government policy, what he had read was not Kelantan State government policy. It has been prepared by other than PAS, and therefore what HRH had read was a private undertaking.

Hi Lucia,
First of all, unfortunately I couldn’t make it to today’s forum. As usual, I have too many things to take care of over the weekend, not enough time.
I had a heated lunch discussion yesterday with some Malay friends on this subject, they had to calm me down – “Relax, we are on the same team, remember ?”
Their take on this is its part of Ku Li’s wayang kulit, part of his UMNO Presidency/Prime Minister campaign. This dumb fool Tengku Mahkota agreed to act as his proxy.
Its standard operating procedure – every serious internal crisis which UMNO faced in its history has been met by deliberately extreme positions on “Ketuanan Melayu”, with non-Malays at the receiving end.
Its different this time. PKR doesn’t buy this, PAS doesn’t buy this.
A lot of ordinary Malays are not buying this.
Non-Malays need to cool down a bit and not take this bait.
“We are on the same team, remember ?” – we need to build Team Malaysia, a real one, not the divide and rule of UMNO and Barisan Najis.

It looks very much like race baiting Kittykat, and does not sell with those with a clear mind. However the odium and the harm attached is real. It is also disgraceful, like a page from the seventies.

you said it had been prepared by PAS but then you said it was private… huh? if from PAS, means not private (from himself). anyway how sure you are it was by PAS (just because kelantan rule by PAS?) while others said it was from UMNO?
kitty
too bad you can’t attend. it was a very good forum. see my report… er… anil’s report.

Hi guys and all,
Don’t let the HRH get to you. He is rpobably not from the New Malaysia Boleh where the Ketuanan is Ketuanan Rakyat. Remember we have been saying that the People is the Boss. Of course the People/Rakyat include all anak Malaysia and not just the Malays.
No need to get hot just because there are still racists around, we should not be calling them that, just do what we have to do and best to ignore these people who are living not in the 21st century.
They know we are not looking for special treatment or rights, we are of the 21st century but what is wrong to ask for equality?

An intriguing side to the story is also possible as well. Patrick Teoh(NIAMAH!!!) sez HRH never said that and is a fake from palace UMNO insiders.
More dastardly deeds by sore losers!

Lu, Y penang people dun talk about the babi issue?
I think you have to build up a blog just to record all the major historical discovery by the new PR gov. starting with LGE land deal, 98% jobs given to certain group of company and lately the babi issue involved also the Umno Bumiputra company lah. so in five years time we willl make a good record of it. List will be endless.
