election watch workshop

tomorrow will be a full and full-filling day for me. first i will be attending an election watch  workshop, followed by the ‘islamization in malaysia’ forum.

the election watch workshop to be held on sunday, 20 jan, from 9.00am to 5.00pm is organised by the ‘malaysia for free and fair election’ (MAFREL), with assistance from the ‘malaysian voters union‘ (MALVU), which is headed by ong boon keong. well it was ong who informed me about the workshop. methinks the number of participants will be limited, that’s why there is no public announcement of this workshop. the announcement is passed through friends (word of mouth and the internet help of course).

since details of the program is in bahasa, i guess the workshop would be conducted in bahasa. the program looks interesting. there will be lot of things to learn, like the process of malaysian election and the role and function of the suruhanjaya pilihan-raya (SPR – election commission of malaysia), how seats are allocated, the role of a polling agents (and other agents) and so on. basically it is, as ong put it ‘a beginner guide into the depth of intricacies of electioneerings. it is non-partisan -but it is strongly for democracy and transparency.’

well i’m looking forward to the workshop. methink perhaps after what i learned from the workshop, i might volunteer to help out in the election… well certainly not for barisan nasional (BN) since i have decided to say no to BN.

oh yeah for those who had registered with the SPR already, don’t forget to come out in full force during the election to vote, ok because it is your rights to vote. your vote WILL make a difference.
