there goes our space flight participant
SHORT UPDATE:
kittykat had pointed out in comments, to me this dr SMS is not the first muslim in space (much as i guess). oh well, but then do you know they label him as ‘first muslim in space during ramadan monht’.
what’s this obsession about being first eh? if they want the tag of ‘first muslim in space during ramadan month’, then might as well take other first tags like maybe ‘first malay doctor’ ? (ortho… er… orthopedic or something, that he is, right? or heaven help us, ‘first model in space’!!
then of course we have this ‘wants to be nearer to god’ thingy that spouts from the angkasawan… er… space flight participant… er… buminaut dr SMS. please i am not making fun of him and his religion but to me i find it rather ridiculous to state one can be nearer to god in space. or correct me if i’m wrong… maybe that was not what he meant. maybe he just meant that being on such important (but expensive, don’t you know that!!) mission makes him nearer to god? whatever, i still don’t agree on it as to me god is everywhere. god is near me, just right by my side if i choose to believe in it; i don’t have to go somewhere or do something to feel him near me.
ORIGINAL POST:
so did ya’ catch the historic blast off, of our first angkasawan on tv? i guess nobody could have missed it if you were watching tv at that time… because you were interrupted (forced) to watch it!
well i was watching ‘bones’ on ntv7, and just as the lady murderer confessed to the priest – plop! – suddenly didn’t get to hear her end words when ntv7 cut the confession off and show us live telecast of the blast off. oh yeah, i heard the announcer still mentioned our angkasawan as ‘space flight participant’ and not cosmonaut, as the russians assured us few days ago that he is a cosmonaut. haha.
what’s this i hear people saying they are so proud that a malaysian finally went to space? well if the malaysian is my boyfriend or brother or a friend i know, then i’ll be proud! but i don’t know this dr SMS (cute as he may be) so why should i be proud?
also, another reason not to be proud (apart from him being only a SFP) is that we must remember the reason he got to go up space via the russian rocket launcher – our gomen paid the russians RM3.4 billion, BILLION, mind you, for 18 18 units of sukhoi SU-30 MKM submarines jet fighters. and the cost of this space trip cost about RM95 million. so RM3.4 billion plus RM95 million – what’s that add up to?
whoaa!! this is incredible!! such a large sum of money spent just for one man to go makan angin in space (oops. ada angin to makan in space?) …. and of course for the gomen of malaysia to feel proud of producing a angkasawan at last, oh and a first muslim in space (so according to them. read somewhere dr SMS is NOT the first muslim in space).
i am too over-whelmed… by the large amount of money involved… and by the attitude of our gomen so can’t continue anymore. maybe continue later.
popular blogger jeff ooi also blogs with heading spaceflight participant in it.
