KL transportation co. for penang
Post on Feb.23, 2007
wahh… so are we suppose to be very happy at our PM, badawi’s angpow for us, penangites? you know, when he announced that rapid KL will be taking over penang’s bus transportation and allocated RM50 mill. to improve bus system in penang.
how kind of him. how generous of him ah. he made sure to mention to us that last year he also gave us an angpow too – the proposed second bridge and monorail.
the PM made this announcement at the mca/gerakan CNY open house, of which i attended. however i did not stay till the end of his speech so i missed out this announcement (wonder were the people… or at least the VIP… applaud loud and hard on hearing this announcement). i knew about it only when i read the paper the next day.
well, it was our CM who pleaded for rapid KL to take over penang’s public bus system! he seemed to be very confident that the takeover of rapid kl will benefit bus commuters.
“With their experience and expertise and our own experience and feedback on the situation, there will be a more solid arrangement that will benefit commuters,” he told newsmen after attending the Chinese New Year open house hosted by the Khaw Kongsi here yesterday.
hmm…. i wonder will they seek the feedback of the most important persons of all – the bus commuters themselves! i find it very annoying that most of the times those ‘higher up’ people planned things without taking into consideration the views of the public… the ‘grass-root’ people who will be the ones utlising what they had planned.
i hope, since rapid KL is touted to be very good, very experienced with all the expertise one can dream of, they will do an extensive research on the roads/routes of penang before embarking on a bus system for penang.
one thing i like about the rapid KL buses is that the steps on a bus is very low… and if i’m not wrong, only one step? (i mean the step lower to the ground). in penang, some of the ‘yellow route’ buses (the nos. 3 series) are using express bus and this express bus, the steps are so high, and when you go up after the steps, there are no place for you to hold on. this is very bad for old people. my mother once fell when she try to get up one of the bus because she said the step is too high for her. (luckily there was no injury).
when i was in KL, although i spy these rapid KL buses but i have not board it before. orang KL, how do you find rapid KL buses? freelunch in one of her latest post describe the bus with the 3 c’s – cool, clean and chic! how’s the service, like their time schedule? how are the drivers?
well i’m not too sure about rapid KL’s takeover of penang’s bus system will benefit us or not, but i’m keeping my fingers crossed that it will. it’s high time we penangites need a good, reliable public bus system.

Sounds like another of the Penang CM’s doublespeak to spin a disgrace into a gain. His own Penang Bus Operator outfit cannot solve the problem and that’s a darn shame!
lucia: *sigh* you sound like ong – very anti govt and always have negative things to say on the govt. yes i do agree with you 100% it is another of the CM’s doublespeak… but what else can he do? if he plan for some revamp of the existing bus, you might criticise him too, if he said this and that, you might criticise him too, now he is trying to solve it by well ok ‘begging’ rapid kl to take over, you criticise him. the thing is we should not always be critical of all the move/action done by the govt. we want the govt. to improve, we want the govt. to do their best… but whatever they do, we criticise. *sigh* i don’t want to say too much now as scared we will get into a debate again. my stand on this bus issue can be read on my post ‘welcome rapid penang’ and esp. at the comments i left at ktemoc.

Well to be fair you should check if the things we criticised the govt for -to see if they are justified. If the govt has been doing bad things we should criticise it as long as it persist eg running don our bus system in the last 15 years ! For your info I support recycling and tourism effort by the govt -by my small contributions in these areas. For a blog which criticise as a hobby it is a bit strange you develop a bit of `criticphobia’ ? Remind me of another group who claim `no one in this world can tell us what to do!’ -forgetting that they are telling(not forcing) many people in the world what to do on human rights and other things every other day ! Enough said !
lucia: " For a blog which criticise as a hobby" excuse me? since when did i tell you i criticise as a hobby using my blog? i’m offended! and also a wee bit upset you saying i suddenly develop criticphobia. as i mentioned in the other thread ‘welcome rapid penang’, and here in response to wits0, agreeing with him, i also criticise the govt’s move. i mentioned i agree with you and wits0… but what’s the point of always opening the mouth to criticise and criticise, but never look at some positive side of it. for things that don’t affect me directly, being not involved maybe i can only criticise negatively but this bus service affect me directly so while criticising, i also want to look at it positively. sure what you people criticised may be justified but while you criticised, do you have a solution to it? while you criticise, if it is the other way round – you are the govt, do you think you can do any better? reminds me of some powerful high authority man who always get the butt of criticism, one day, decided to step down and said "ok you take my place to be in power, and i’ll take your place to criticise you". ’nuff said!
no, my hobby is not to criticise. no, i’m not anti-government. no, i did not set up this blog merely to criticise the government (or whoever/whatever).
