imagine…
Imagine there’s no countries
It isn’t hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion too
Imagine all the people
Living life in peace…
(part of john lennon’s popular song ‘imagine‘)
yes, if there are no countries and no religion, then wars would not occurred at all ahhh… keep on imagining.
in my post below ‘criminalising wars‘, a commenter by the handle of ‘doublestandard’ had made a lengthy comment, which i feel obligated to respond here as a post by itself. after all, s/he had spent so much time on the comments, so i must give her/him this honour. 🙂
The conference on criminalising war is not about bashing Bush, Blair or Howard. To say that the EX PM is going on a bashing spree is simply incorrect. Isn’t this conference about criminalising war and giving citizens of this world a bigger picture ( Than CNN or BBc could provide ) on the effects of war, its devastation to the enviroment and to mandkind. To think of this event as a bashing spree is simply narrow in thinking.
ok. so the conference is about war crimes and criminalising wars. ok so it is about giving a bigger picture on the effects of war. true. true…. but when dr m was talking about war crimes, why did he singled out bush and blair? why did he called them ‘killers of children’ when obviously there are others killers of children too.
Why do DR M need to spent thousands of Ringgit on this forum just to bash BBH, when all he could do is call an international press conference ( and i bet the big boys of CNN, BBc and Al Jazeera would be happy to attend and air it lived, after all the US and its allies are strong advocates of the freedom of speech and anti censorial ) and bash them infront of international TV. After all, Dr M is no longer the PM of this country and thus he has nothing to loose. Malaysia has nothing to loose, its not Badawi making the comments.
dr m spent thousand of ringgit? er… i don’t think he even spent a single cents, my dear. this conference was organised by perdana global peace organisation, and it was this organisation that spent all the thousands of ringgit. dr m was an invited speaker, just like ali shalal was an invited speaker.and of course speakers don’t have to spend anything to attend the conference…. well apart from his nice suit, his travelling. 🙂
you said it. dr m is no longer the PM… so do you think he is big shot enough to call for an international conference? calling for international conference is usually done by ministers of the country. after all dr m did once said that he is now a rakyat like you and me.
War is inevitable ? Who says ? God gave us a choice to do what wish with our planet, and it is our choice as to what we want to do with it. War is not the way to achieve peace, it clearly does not reflect Christianity or any other religious teachings. War only creates animosity and hatred towards one another. The way to achive peace and to win the hearts of the people around the world and this includes terrorist is through the Gandhi way. Not fighting.
Thinking that war is the way to achieve peace and settle disputes is clearly primitive thinking. War clearly reflects the barbaric and primitive nature of man, it does not reflect man as educated intellects, using their reasoning to solve problems.
very good point. fully agree with you. when i said war is inevitable though, i meant some wars need to be fought e.g. a defensive war, a war to gain freedom for the country. why, dr m himself had said he will support war (surprise?) if iraq invaded US. (see jeff ooi’s post).
I guess we as Malaysians have enjoyed peace and stability in this country, as a result of this we do not feel the suffering of citizens in war torn countries. To say that this conference is just a bashing party and war is inevitable just shows the insensitivity and irrational thinking of the writer.
well you are a malaysian. you have not gone through wars too (unless you are old) but you have gone through the emotionally charged conference, which i have not.
my parents had gone through world war 1 when the japanese occupied our country. they had suffered during the war. my dad (deceased) had stories to tell me how he was mistreated by the japanese.
all this has nothing to do with me saying that the conference… excuse me…. correction please, i don’t mean the conference but i meant specifically dr m… what i meant to say was that this conference is a west bashing time for dr m.
I agree that Saddam has done many horrific and cruel things to his citizens and he should be punish for his acts. This does not mean that the “Police Force of the World” can do likewise and torture innocent civilians. Doesn’t the Geneva Convention prohibits the torture of innocent civilians ? If Saddam is condemn for such inhumane acts, shouldn’t the US and its allies be condemn too. Double standards for the Police force of the world ?
but this conference did not bring up saddam at all to acknowledge he was a war criminal tool!
Lucia Lai : “Bush and Blair are now totally reviled and condemned by the world and by their own people,” he said. “To a certain extent, they have been tried and sentenced by their own people and media.” how does he ( Dr M ) know that for sure?
Everybody knows that Blair and Bush are loosing support on the war on terror. Bush’s political party has lost the latest elections in US. Doesn’t this paint a clear picture for you Ms Katak di bawah tempurung as to Mr Bush popularity. Donald Rumsfeld’s and CIA Chief’s resignation, doesn’t this reflect the loosing support for Mr Bush ? Doesn’t Mr Blair’s popularity rating shows that he is loosing support in UK ? For yr information, the citizens of UK are getting fed up with the Blair govt using tax payers money for a meaningless war. The Uk citizens are calling Mr Gordon Brown to step in to the shoes of Mr Blair….VOTE OF NO CONFIDENCE FOR MR BLAIR FROM THE PUBLIC.
of course. that is the propaganda fed to you by those anti-west media/people. as many as thier own people who are against them, there are equally as many who support them too.
it’s strange you said bush and blair are loosing support on war on terror. war on iraq, i agree but war on terror? it is indeed a frightening thought if people do not support them (or whoever) on this fight on terror! why, don’t you know that dr m when he was PM, he had voiced his support for bush to fight terrrorism?
you know i respect you 100% with your rational argument but the moment you get to name calling (katak di bawah tempurung), my respect for you drop drastically to 70%.
Please do not make such criticism or any other criticism unless u have been there for all three days. And please do not hold the mat salleh with such high regard.
the only criticism i made was of dr m’s bashing of B&B and H. i don’t have to be there to notice that. jeff ooi’s blog provided much of dr m’s address, and so did other media. whether i was there or not is irrelevant. i’m sure there are some who were there would criticise too.
oh and didn’t i already stated in my earlier post, "now don’t come after me saying i’m on B&B’s side, ok. i’m not on anyone’s side. i just like to highlight the double standard of dr m and his hatred for B&B." (2nd last para). to say i hold a high regard for the mat salleh is laughable and to think you can tell of that just because i criticise dr m for bashing them and being double standard is laughable too.
Please go find out the meaning of arian. Please find out the meaning before u start using them
oh? where did i mentioned ‘arian’ at all? where did i use it before?
