dr m for peace prize?

i did a double take when i saw this heading in the star paper – ‘dr m nominated for nobel prize‘. did i read right? i read again, blink my eyes, rub my eyes, and sure enough, yes it did says dr m was nominated for the nobel peace prize.

huh? why did i find that hard to believe? well, dr m would be the last person on earth for me to imagine getting the nobel peace prize. look at his 22 years of being the PM – was he a man of peace? oh well, but he was nominated for what he did for bosnia-herzegovina…. nothing to do with our own country.

i don’t know what criteria one must have (have done) to be nominated. is it just based on one incident/happenings? don’t have to see the works/acts of the person on the whole? if it is the latter, then surely dr m should not be nominated at all! i guess it is the former. in that case, the nobel peace award wouldn’t be consider prestigious to me anymore.

I posted these comments on Susan Loone’s blog earlier today: While Dr M has done some good things which do further the cause of peace and helped some in need (like the Bosnians), his misdeeds far outweigh his meritous deeds in my opinion. He does not deserve to be given the Nobel Peace Prize. I am preparing an email to the Norwegian Nobel Committee to express my points to that effect, to be sent should Dr M accept the nomination. I shall start with how Tun Salleh Abas was treated. Then, Ops Lallang. And… Perhaps some others may also wish to do the same. Lucia, he was nominated for initiating aid to Bosnia, when Clinton was busy under his desk. The Novel Peace prize is not trivia. Just being nominated doesnt not mean that he will win it. Lets just be charitable….Tun has had his mis-steps (dont we all?). We all have strengths and weaknesses. I tell my participants at seminars to work on their strengths rather than dwell on weaknesses. Invariably weaknesses will disappear when we put our concerted on our strengths. JC did say:let those who are without sin cast the first stone. It has been sometime ago that I stopped collecting stones. Let the Nobel process continue and maybe learn something from what comes about. Much Cheers. ….and thanks for visiting my blog.

lucia: you are right about the strengths and weaknesses part but i still think dr me is not deserving of the nobel peace prize… BUT now that i heard other undeserving people getting it, i began to lose faith in the nobel prize. it’s nothing at all. i thought the prize is based for overall but it seems it is based on only one occasion. sure dr m helped out a lot in bosnia but that was for just that particular time.
