mob mentality (3)
sorry, i’m still on the same subject as i am very angry at the protestors (from UMNO, PAS, ABIM, JIM, Arqam and many others muslim groups) and not at the ones who spread the sms rumours.
so both our PM and DPM had came out to slam those who started the sms rumour regarding the ‘baptism of muslim‘ issue. however no word from them slamming the groups that gathered outside the church? not from any of the other ministers too. all of them were yakking on how wrong and bad was it to spread rumours like this but how come no one came out to say, like what sisters in islam (SIS) said:
zaitun, sisters in islam (SIS) programme manger had apologised to ” for the conduct of ‘a small, ill-informed group of Muslims’that had caused fear and anxiety amongst Malaysians.”
was she refering to those who spread the rumours or the protestors? if the protestors, my dear, they are nothing but small. some sources mentioned 600 and some 1000 – that’s big.
she also noted:
… that the protest was another incident in a damaging trend where religion was being used to drive a wedge between different ethnic groups.
so i wonder the earlier part of apologising for ‘a small, ill-informed group of Muslims’ meant the protestors. if yes, she’s the only one who came out to slam the protestors.
i felt very very annoyed that there was no mentioning of the protestors who gathered in such big numbers, frightening the church worshippers. the president of the council of churches of malaysia (CFM), bishop dr lim spoke up:
“Why should worshipers who attend church be subjected to trepidation caused by unruly mobs?
yes, the mobs were there based on a sms rumour… a rumour they were quick to believe. as i said whether the sms rumour is true or not true, those people should NOT gathered in such large number in front of the church – and this point, our ministers should bring it up. should chastisied the protestors on why they resort to such an action based on some sms without evidence. but why they didn’t? don’t tell me, it’s like they support their mob action, IF the rumour will found to be true? this is very troubling indeed. troubling.
i did not visit project petaling street (PPS – a blog portal) for some time but i heard from bob, and some other blogger, that they were some muslim bloggers who blogs on they supporting the protestors! can you believe that? believe it, why some even suggesting bombing the church!!
the police should also detained the leaders of the mob… people who gathered there, not only concentrate on the ones who spread the sms rumour.
bishop lim rightly said:
“Such an act of protest in front of a church shows that religious extremism is rearing its ugly head,” he added.
indeed. how troubling. i weep.
