police brutality… again

Police will investigate the alleged assault of two youths by uniformed “policemen” aired over a news clip on TV3’s Bulletin Utama yesterday.

Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Mohd Bakri Omar said he would direct his officers to probe the incident which appeared to have occurred in what could have been a police station.

The four-minute clip, which also showed a youth being forced to lick his saliva off the floor, is believed to have been recorded on a handphone because of its poor quality.

now, when can i see the clip on youtube? and posted up by bloggers here and there? howsy?

tv3 nightline today showed the clip again and lucky me to catch it this time. yeah, it was seen so clearly a policeman kicking so many times at one of the youth. then i heard it…. the two youth are not malaysians.

yes i feel that the police power abuse is a reality and its getting worst here in Malaysia … but

but think of it from the victims view, what if you were help up by the robbers with parang slated across your larynx? what if you family were threaten?

lucia: this is call self-defence. if i am attacked or see my family attacked, of course i will attacked the robber back.
without knowing the whole story, yeah thats the abuse we are all talking about, but when the whole story that backs it up, i feel its justified…

the case where a TAR student was killed … would you have said the same thing if the police caught the fella and wack the shit out of him?

yes i would. you mean to tell me that you feel that the police has a right to wack the shit out of every killer/suspect? good lord! glad you are not a police then. iÂ imagine you as a police interrogating a suspect – beat! beat! bash! bash! hammer! hammer! and all the time you feel you have a right to do so because the suspect murder someone. frightening.

you feel that if a person is guilty as hell, a person is caught red-handed murdering someone, you or the police have a right to bash the shit out of him/her. that, my dear, is taking the law into your own hands. you’ll be no better than the killer if you caught the killer then you bashed him to a pulp.Â

there will never be any justification to voluntarily resorting to violence… unless you want to be the bad guy… the snatch thief, the killer.

anyway, why stray away from the issue of my post? i was talking about the police beating up a suspect in custody during interrogation. remember this suspect was handcuffed too, so in no way cannot defend himself.Â also, the deputy internal security minister had already admitted that the the interrogation was done badly and the policeman concerned will be hauled up. even pak lah had called on the IGP to investigate. the policemen shouldn’t do what he had done – violently assaulted the suspects – which was very wrong.

lucia: what? WHAT?? did i hear you right, ali? goodness gracious me!! there is always no, not ever justification for violent interrogation on the police part. a suspect may be wild, fierce, abusive and so on but the police who should be professonal in their dealings with suspect should never resort to violence.

oh well, that is the ideal… but as someone had said police brutality happens all the time, only they do not get reported (or video taped!) thus nobody knows. sad.Â

Tried to searh Youtube but there’s none. And btw, you tot I’m in Malaysia can watch TV3 har? 😛

lucia: no lah. where got? i already know you are not in malaysia. you don’t have to be in malaysia watching tv3 to get hold of the video clip – you have the internet!
