drivers’ attitude – parking

speak of the devil! yesterday wee morning i blog on this matter and in the afternoon when i went for lunch at my usual favourite koay teow th’ng stall in king street, it happened again… those stupid drivers parking their cars blocking motorbike parking bays. i quickly snapped some pictures of the cars with my handphone.
when i was there about 12.35pm, i saw these 2 cars.

see the back car (PGE 9983) was completely blocking a row of parking bays for motorbikes. the front car (partly seen) was in front of the motorbikes’ parking bays too but it was parked a bit further out, thus motorbikes can still go in and out… but still it need some maneourving. i parked my chaly there.

the car that was in front (PFM 2223).
well so i went in the coffee shop and had my lunch. then about 1.00pm when i finished my lunch and walked back to get my chaly, lo and behold, i saw this!:

a taxi was there (where PFM 2223 was)… and with it’s two doors opened too. luckily i can still manage to push my chaly out but i know for those bikes after me, they were going to have problems pushing thier bikes out… especially with the taxi’s doors getting in their way (but which can easily be closed of course).
i guess this taxi driver must be inside the coffee shop that was just in front of the motorbikes’ parking bays (different one from the one i goes to for my favourite koay teow th’ng), which means he will be able to have a lookout in case any bikers wanted to move out. that is the problem with most drivers… it’s another syndrome they have (apart from the “that’s too far to walk” and “i’ll be a while only” syndrome as i mentioned below). er… i would call it “ok to park here as i am able to see my car” syndrome. these people would be inside the coffee shop eating or chatting and at the same time always keeping a lookout on their illegally parked car… and when they spy (a) someone whom they have blocked her/his way, quickly run out to move the car a bit, then back to eating/chatting in the coffee shop (b) a cop, quickly run out and cried “datuk, i am leaving now”, and quickly drove off (but of course to come back later).
i suppose this happened everyday – i mean cars parking blocking the motorbikes’ parking bays here in king street. i do not go there everyday but once a week, and everytime during the once a week i was there, i will for sure see one or two cars there blocking the parking bays.
oh gosh! i have to live with this?

ok think i will not blog on politics and the government for 3 days… er… maybe 2 days. too much talk on ‘em already lah.
let’s talk about what i read in yesterday’s star about drivers’ attitude that is driving us all up the wall. i’m sure this is an interesting topic where everyone can relate to and everyone will have thier own stories to tell!
the article focus on double parking and indiscriminate parking. this is one thing i had grumbled so much about when indiscriminate parking blocked my poor chaly. yes i had blog about it many times in my old blog at blogger, like this post. i was so mad and at a few times had managed to take photos of those idiots drivers.
you know, about a week ago when i was staying at the bungalow, when my sister who dropped by (to hand me something) wanted to leave, we found a car parked right smacked in front of the bungalow’s gate!! can you imagine that! of course my sister can’t drive her car out. i went to survey the car and i try to open the door. we stood there for 10 mins, hopping the driver would appear any moment but still no driver came. so we waited and waited while i cursed and cursed. i felt like scratching the car! then finally after 25 mins, a man came and the moment he saw me standing by his car, muttered “sorry, sorry”. i said to him “how can you park your car right in front of our gate?” and he keep on saying “sorry, sorry” again, and i mumbled “sorry also no use. you already blocked our path and let us wait for so long.” i should have shouted at him with a fierce look but then i’m a rather timid person so all i did was to mumbled softly to him.
how can a person be so inconsiderate, i wonder? parked right in front of a house’s gate, mind you! so mad!!
then of course we have those idiots who double park. it get so irritating when you are searching for a parking space and thought you spy one but when you approach nearer, horror! notice that the car had taken up two parking bays! stupid jerks!
the star’s article also touched on drivers with the “that’s too far to walk” syndrome. these are the drivers who refused to park at an illegal parking space because they are too lazy to walk. so they park as close as possilbe to their intended destination.
of course there is also this “i’ll be a while only” syndrome… with the examples of those cars who blocked my chaly. when the driver came to take her/his car and saw me standing ther fuming, she/he will say “sorry ah. i park here because i’ll be away for a while only.”. dimwits! how do you know you’ll be a while only? and who cares how fast you’ll be back… you already did something wrong and cause inconvenience to people.
grrr! talking about attitude of drivers will really raise my blood pressure so i’d better stop now. gotta get some zzzzzzzzzz now anyway (guess i’ll fume in my sleep!).

They don’t give tickets for blocking the gate. He would get one over here. Maybe towed at his expense too. How inconsiderate.
And I hate double parkers. New car owners are the biggest violaters. Argh!!!! Really burns me up.
lucia: yeah. i think next time if i waited for over 15mins, i’d better call the tow truck.

Ya, tell me about it…
Yesterday, I shouted at one idiot who simply stopped at the main lane (eventhough there were 3 empty parking lots nearby), walked out to the shop and returned couple of minutes later with 5 – 8 cars blocked by his car. I managed to park my car and shouted at the idiot for it…all he could do is to see me like he has done nothing wrong and drive away.
lucia: yalah. these idiots always pretend they don’t know anything (that what they did was wrong).

Over near where I stay, people triple park coz it’s a commercial area and there are too many cars vs insufficient parking bays. I hear cars honking all day long when those who parked in the bay wants to get out but cannot. Some people I know say that it’s ok to park like that as long as they leave their contact number on the dash board if whoever wants to leave their parking bay! What other excuse will they use for such inconsiderate behaviour???
lucia: triple park? terrible!
huh? what a silly idea! leaving contact number indeed!Â

typ…getting tow at his expense is a good one…should be implemented here in Malaysia..
I parked in uptown, damansara and there was this roadside cloth seller with his van double parking….I waited a while an horn while I was there…guess what he said on his first encounter
“tunggu sekejap tak boleh ya?”
motha fukcer, I waited and he even scolded me…… stupid uneducated people
lucia: these people are actually educated people… too educated that their brain goes pop! thus they dunno how to think anymore.

Had a similar problem some days back. I was late for a meeting and as I was about to leave found this van parked just at the back. Waited for a while but the driver never came back. Was finally able to get the car through the narrow space with the help of some kind people- took me nearly 15 mintues to do that.
Was really mad.
lucia: oh dear. you were right to be mad. thank god there was some kind people around to get you out of the mess.

Almost everyday when I got home, there’s always a car park at my gate that blocks my entry. It’s my neighbour. Once, twice, three times, yet he does it all the time. I had to press the horn so many times to get him out of his house to get his ass car out of my way. Inconsiderate? I don’t think so. I think he loves to do it as he derives joy. I am timid so cannot scold him.
lucia: wah!! you also a timid person kah? can’t believe it. ok lah, don’t scold him but tell it to him nicely, subtly…. like that can or not, timid mave?

Now the Penang government says it will REDUCE the number of parking bays in the city in a further attempt to ‘encourage’ people to use public transport!

“public transport”
What animal is that? That bust-ed parody called the “public bus service”?

Sometimes there are a lot of parking bays but yet the driver choose to park his/her car under a tree -shady mah. Then there is also the “lazy to walk” drivers, that walking another 10m would kill them. There are lots of parking bay but not close enough to their destination. Cilaka!!! The best of all, these attitudes are observed on university campus ground. If the lecturers/students do not have decent basic etiquette, what can we expect of Ah Meng, Ahmad and Muthu of the streets??? Like you say sometimes ppl are too educated that they go pops in their brain.
lucia: ha! cilaka is the best word to describe them indeed!!

Is that considered bad? Oh Lucia, come to KL and Bangsar, PJ and SS2, and see triple parkings. If what I see of the photos, in KL, I called them reasonable people. In KL, when I park at Kuchai Park, I could not reverse at all. I hood and horned and nobody cares. Worse, I saw a guy got beaten up for complaining the recalcitrants. Maybe, you should stay at Bangsar for 2 weeks and SS2 for 2 weeks. When you get back to Penang, you would appreciate the difference. Tell you one more: Almost every morning and night when I got back or when I want to get out my home, there is always a car blocking the exit at my gate. It’s my neighbour and so many times he did it but till today, he didn’t feel remorse or bad. Every morning or night, I have to call and knock his door to get him to reverse his car. Yet, it continues… Was it a race issue or was it an attitude issue. I thought of doing it once on him but I am scared.
lucia: mave, i’m sure KL is worst than penang but since i’m living in penang, definetely i complain about what happened in penang. no, even if i stay 2 or 3 weks in KL, and get back to penang, i won’t appreciate the difference. something wrong happens, it is already wrong, no matter not so often or not so terrible… and it is cause for complain.
your predictment sounds so strange. your neighbour blocking your gate – very strange. when you knock on his door to get him to reverse his car, what did he said? nothing? what did you say? (apart from “please reverse your car as i need to get out”
. you should tell him in a nice way why is he always blocking your way and appreciate it if he wouldn’t do that the next time. btw, why can’t he park his car in front of his gate instead?Â

The “lazy to walk†attitude also afflicts motocyclist as much IF NOT more but because of the comparative bulk of a car, this attitude has far greater consequences per unit.
Maverick, do you not have a right to place a heavy concrete based no-parking signboard on your house/gate entrance? Might help some.
lucia: ahem! do you mean me?? i’m a motorcyclist, remember. er… no lah, i no have the “lazy to walk” syndrome but er… sometimes (once in a blue moon ok) i have the “i’ll be a while only” syndrome. hehe.
