number of holidays not an issue
this is related to my previous post about public holidays. the editor of sinchew paper has a good write-up on it.
earlier today a friend of my sister who works in the general hospital (office) pointed out that come july when they are on 5 days week, means their off work time is 5.00pm - and this is the off time for many of those in the public sectors. she complained - arggh! traffic jam increased!!

3 subjects on penang
ok gonna make this a 3-in-1. 3 topics on penang. so the 3 will be short ones then.
1. bring back local council.
karpal singh urge the PM to restore to penang it’s traditional free port status.
penang was made a free port in 1872 but had it removed in 1967. earlier we heard of talks on penang losing its shine and all that. well, according to karpal singh, it is the abolishing of local council elections which led to penang sorry state of affairs.

exceptional result for my england *beaming*
since the result i got from this test was EXCEPTIONAL, i decided to post it up to show off my england (but compare to others, i did not do exceptionally). normally i don’t like this kind of tests. but at least english or quiz test are better than those silly ‘what kind of star wars characters are you?’, ‘what kind of disney character are you?’, ‘what kind of malaysian blogger are you?’. sorry, kenny (the one who invented this test/quiz), this is my personal opinion. hope you don’t mind i label it as ’silly’. it’s true i don’t like this kind of test as i find it silly - i mean why would i, a malaysian blogger myself, want to know what kind of malaysian blogger i am? i am i! i am lucia lai of mental jog! i’m no other malaysian blogger. i know… people would say this is just for fun, not to be taken seriously… well, let’s say then i don’t like this kind of fun. i am out-spoken ok (which made some people hate me).

too many public holidays
what do you think? do you agree that we have too many public holidays?
according to a NST report, the government is going to study the excessiveness of public holidays in malaysia.
as the five-days week will be implemented soon come 1st july, DPM najib fear that with public holidays thrown into the 5-days week, will make workers less competitive.
presently we have 14 gazetted public holidays. however, according to malaysian trade union congress president, syed shahir, out of these 14, 11 were religious/cultural based thus it is not wise to reduce the holidays.

ping! and we were all there!

the front of the PPS t-shirt.
i know. i’m late in writing about the PPS bash. well, i just returned from KL today at 4.00pm. then i need time to edit and upload the photos. i did not take as many photos as i thought i would! i was over whelmed by the big turnout. you know, the minute i reached home after my bus journey from KL, the first thing i did was to switch on the computer and read the write-up of the bash from the others. many interesting reads. i was reading here and there for over an hour and then decided i had better unpack and freshen up first before continuing reading, and possibly commenting. i’m so addicted, see!

tsunami aid not reaching the grassroot
many people came forward to donate cash and kind to the dec. 26 tsunami victimes. many aids were handled by NGOs, and of course we have those handled by the government.
the govt. promised to deliver aids to fishermen in kuala muda, kedah and penang but 6 months after the tragedy, yet many fishermen lamented that they had not recieved aids from the govt.
one fisherman, badaruddin, said”
“The government promised us two things, $6,500 for those who lost fibreglass boats, and $18,000 for those who lost wooden ones. But all we’ve been given is $250 for fibreglass boats, and $800 for wooden boats.”

a 19 years old college student also said that his driving instructor had ‘announced’ to him and the other students taking the driving test that they had to pay RM200 to guarantee a pass.
