anwar has a credibility problem
how could i have missed this letter in malaysiakini from someone with the handle ‘disappointed’. actually i seldom goes to malaysiakini website but i received news/letters from malaysiakini via beritamalaysia newsgroup. well, it was today that i received from beritamalaysia this post with heading ‘anwar has forsaken ideals’ that attracted me. yes this letter is current, written yesterday in malaysiakini, and it was in response to the letter of 15 dec, examine anwar’s contributions, which i had missed out.
what these 2 letter writers wrote reflect my sentiments. all along i look on anwar with suspicion and many people knows i’m not particularly fond of him. i was also kind of pissed off at the so many attention and praises people (including the media) heaped on him. especially after his release, there had been so many news on him in all the papers. well understandably, in the beginning yes, the interview and all that but after that, there were still a few people talking about him as if he is a god. and worst, he himself was heard expressing his thoughts on malaysia in the media. can you believe it? he’s already out of the government, why talk so much on government issues? like not too long ago, he voiced his opinion on the happenings in south thailand. ok you will say nothing wrong in voicing opinion as we all do… but the difference was that he get media coverage and he not only voiced his opinion but he try to ‘teach’ malaysia how to act and ‘admonish’ thai. of course this is only one example.
i’m not articulate and profilic to write what i think of anwar but these 2 letter writers had exactly expressed my view, thus i’m highlighting them. (see how i use the word ‘teach’ – dunno what to say!)
what the letter writer, ‘disappointed’ had said in the malaysiakini article, reminded me too of what a friend of mine wrote in response to anil netto’s articles which more often than not side anwar. i think i have blog on it too but forgot when/where. anyway here it is:
All the personalities involved have had their days of basking in political sunshine. We know enough about our former deputy PM. Anwar himself enjoyed 16 years in power (1982 – 1998), five years as a powerful deputy PM. Were reforms not needed then? If we choose to dissect the legacy of the former administration, then in fairness and objectivity, we need to ask as well what was Anwar’s specific legacy that brought greater administrative efficiency, raised educational standards (the KBSM was a mess), racial harmony, economy prosperity, political stability to our country? Cronyism was practiced by all – but that’s politics!
and do you know, in one of veteran writer/ex journalist, mgg pillai’s article, when he was writing about the ban of ‘jesus’ in christmas carol, he had ths to say of anwar:
Few UMNO leaders can escape blame for it, including the former UMNO deputy president, Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim, who banned, in office, even the singing of carols at shopping malls and public places, and arbitrarily re-arranged the school holidays so Christmas is not during the long vacation. This was reversed after his fall.
(for full context, read the article in full, not relate to this post, but relate to the ban on jesus carol stuff)
can you believe that? we were grumbling about banning carols with the word jesus in it during the national open house but here, this man was banning singing of carols at shopping malls and public places… aiya lagi teruk.
i know this post of mine will receive lots of flak from anwar’s fans but what the heck… i’m speaking up my mind.
