happy winter solstice

today is the winter solstice, or commonly known in hokkien as ‘tang chek’, a festival celebrated by the chinese. during this day people will eat this er… what you call it huh… in penang we simply call it “ee” (hokkien for round). i think in cantonese it is known as ‘tong yuen’. (glutinous rice balls)

i don’t know much about this festival as we don’t celebrate it actually… but we do make or make and eat the ‘tong yuen’. corrections… not we. everyone in my house/family except me. yep, i don’t eat the ‘tong yuen’ at all. it is said that by eating this ‘tong yuen’, you will grow one year or something like that. friends always laugh at me saying i don’t take ‘tong yuen’ that’s why i never grow (still short and small, see).

well to all those who celebrate this festival, enjoy yourself eating all the ‘tong yuen’. don’t eat too much eh… otherwise you’ll age faster. 😉
