tips to avoid road fatalities
in 3 days time it will be deepavali and in 7 days time it will be hari raya. soon the balik kampung exodus will start, and many people will be hitting the road for that. and as in previous years, usually we will get to hear about road accidents/fatalities happening here and there, especially on trunk roads, as reported last year. i had blog about it here.
theresa manavalan of the new straits times wrote that accidents had become a hallmark of festive seasons. she also tells us that it is not only our country that experience this phenomena but in countries like britain, canada and the US, the christmas-new year break clocks up similar statistical highs accentuated by rain, snow and ice on the highways.
why do you think many accidents occurs during festive break? well according to theresa, researchers had come up with a few reasons, and the top 3 are sleep deprivation, fatigue and the big rush, because “these are classic features of a holiday season. we sleep less because we are socialising, we are more tired because we are entertaining, we’re in a huge hurry because we try to do so much in a short time.”
