can’t stop them? then jammed them!
It was the reporters who noticed first. Unable to call their editors while covering the weddings of the rich and famous, they asked the priest why their cell phones never worked at Sacred Heart. His reply: Israeli counterintelligence.
excerpt from yahoo news.
don’t worry… the ‘israeli counterintelligence’ has nothing to do with terrorists. it’s the handphone jammers made in the country israel.
it seems that 4 churches in tel aviv had started to install jammers. well, i don’t blame them for resorting to this action. i can understand how irritating it is when a phone rings right in the middle of the celebration of mass in church. it happens to the churches i attended too but luckily it is not so rampant.
however, it happens a lot during church meetings. i blog about it before here. i get very mad at these people who allows their handphone to ring during meeting, and of course madder still when they answer the phone right there and then while the meeting is going on!! how nice if jammers can be install in meeting room.

well, installing jammers is nothing new. in india, believe it or not, they had it install in parliament (as according to this article), and in an italian universities, they started to use jammers too they discovered that cell phone-savvy teenagers were cheating on exams by sending text messages or taking pictures of tests. and in japan, they are considering installing jammers in concerts and theatres.
according to this article, the private installation of jammers is illegal in the US and most other western countries. some argues that jammers infringe on personal rights while some said the jammers might cause disturbance to other communication devices.
i think so far, we have not heard of anywhere in our country installing jammers? maybe it is also illegal here. the idea of installing of jammers is infringing on personal rights to me is really absurd. do you have a right t, say disturb the audiences when they are in the middle of enjoying an excelent piano recital? do you have the right to disrupt a prayer service?
actually it all boils down to people’s attitude. if they are considerate, courteous and discipline lot, there’s no need to use jammers at all. unfortunately, as someone said, we are not living in a perfect world, there are bound to be some morons who think they have a right to answer their phones anywhere… so the best solution is to use jammers!
