dust settled
the dust has settled, so said jeff ooi regarding the anwar/BH/NST saga. it’s good to learn that jeff has many friends in every circles (well almost) to lend him support. i really hope the dust has settled and everything is clean without a single speck. i’m afraid that might be a teeny weeny speck of dust yet.
anyway, let’s be positive and hope for the best. so if this saga has settled, what has this saga taught us… apart from the 10 points aizuddin brought up? well, i won’t speak generally for all but rather personally for myself.
let’s see… first of all, this had kind of made me more wary with my blogging… especially when i am found of criticising the government. and i admit sometimes i also talked about islam… no, not that i criticise islam but i like to talk about no freedom of religion… er… correction. better don’t say no freedom of religion because that is not correct actually. what i meant is ‘restrictions on other religions’. yes i like to compare islam with other religions and grumble that there are a lot of restrictions place on other religions although there IS freedom of religion.
yes, i think i had better tone down my criticisms of the govt. less i get carried away and made some UMNO king monkeys… oops!… i mean UMNO leaders jumped up and down and then demand that i apologise for saying this and that. but of course i can’t control what readers of my blog said, though of course i can delete their comments… but i usually try as far as possible not to delete readers’ comments.
this brings me to what many bloggers had been puzzled at – ‘anwar’ coming in to jeff’s blog to make an insulting comment on islam (so according to certain UMNOputeras) and jeff became the target of being the gulity one. it’s like say someone comes to my house, and he shouted abuse at the PM and it suddenly means i also contribute to the abuse since he did it in my house and i allows it? kind of silly logic, isn’t it? blogger mat jan had an amusing story to illustrate this point. and PAS member, husam musa rightly asked, “how could the government (think of punishing) ooi when he was merely allowing readers to post comments on his blog? how can you kill the plant just because parasites live on it?” (via lone) hurray for husam!
i agree with jeff when he said that the one thing we should learn from this saga is that we should all be committed to promoting the Positive Use of Internet. indeed. let us be able to discern well what is right and what is wrong, and stand by our principles always. bloggers, onwards let us march on!
