happy mother’s day

i wonder has anyone watch the chinese (mandarin) movie last night on tv2? the title of the show was ‘gone is the one who held me dearest in the world’. wow. what a mouthful! i wonder why chinese movies titles most of the time sound silly. probably doing a direct translation that become lost/silly when translate to english. oh i digress….

i was talking about the show. it was a very nice show for mother’s day. though the whole show, more than half of it, you only get to see the two characters – the over 50 years old woman with her 80 years old mother, it was a good, moving, realistic, story of how a woman love and care for her old mother.

her mother had an operation, despite her old age, where the risk is very high she might not make it. she survived and the story show us the mother’s change of characteristics after the operation like a bit senile, impatient, childish….. and her daughter tolerated all her mother’s anitcs. at times though, the daughter was very frustrated with her mother and shouted at her. all in all, the daughter was so patient with her mother.

the show really made me wonder… no doubt about it that i love my mother dearly but i was wondering if i were in the daughter’s situation, with a sick and temperamental old mother to look after, would i be as patient as her? i admire the daughter’s love for her mother and vice versa. both of them sure share a great bond of love that surpasses everything. i learned something from the show. my mother raised me. my mother love me. i should return my love to her by taking good care of her in her old age, even if she is sick or senile.

the story ended in a nice way. the woman’s long lost daughter from overseas returned to her (after the old woman’s death) and call her ‘mum’. this tells me that, this selfless woman in her 50s had cared so much for her 80 years old mother, and now her daughter is returning to her, to care for her, just as she cares for her mother.

what a good way to start mother’s day.
