the 3 W’s of getting online

can you still remember when was the time you first get online? you know, when you first signed up for an ISP (internet service provider) and discovered the wonders of the world wide web (www). do you also remember who or what made you want to get on the internet? why do you decided to get on the internet? and what were you attracted to that made you signed up? live chat? email? games? an encyclopedia in your home?

i had to admit it… what made me so eager to sign up for internet was live chat, or commonly known as IRC (internet relay chat). yes, the main reason i signed up was to use IRC, and yes at that time i was quite addicted to IRC, but my addiction lasted only a few months before i discovered newsgroup/discussion group and forums… then i get addicted to them, and am still addicted! it’s more fun to be in forums to debate and argue (and tease!) with people, at the same time get to learn something. currently i’m in the ‘beritamalaysia’. newsgroup and a few forums like mypdacafe, but of course when blogging becomes popular, i was more addicted to reading and commenting on people’s blogs… until in sept. 2003 when i started my own blog, so here i am! yep! currently, most of my online time were spent on blogging and commenting on other people’s blogs!

i have a long write-up of what made me get on the net, and how from one place i move to another and so on, and what interests i was interested in and am now interested in. it’s too long to be put up here, so i’m going to put it up on my mental jog extra. (titled ‘the internet years’.) be warned… it IS very long, so unless you want to be bored this weekend, don’t read it.

note: in case you are wondering i had so much time to write such a long article, you are wrong. i wrote that within days, mind you. one day, a little bit here and there. in fact started on it before the CNY!
