resolution fulfilled perpetually
i fulfilled my resolution every year. ohh… but i don’t make resolutions as i don’t believe in making resolutions. then how come i say i fulfil my resolution? oh you see, long long ago this was how my resolution went – ‘since i don’t believe in resolution, i resolve not to make any resolutions”. ah. so after that, when i don’t make any resolutions, it means i fulfilled my resolution! you get it? so year in and year out i never make resolutions but yet can be considered i fulfilled my resolution.
why is it i don’t like making resolutions? well, for the simple reason that it is no point making resolutions that i can’t keep. and it is pointless to make resolutions just because everyone else are doing it. hey we can make resolutions anytime of the year, not necessary on new year’s day only. and i feel it is kind of silly making those simple ordinary resolutions e.g. i will go on a diet, i will not smoke too much, i will not lose my temper towards my parents, i will learn not to procrastinate, i will try to do more good deed to the poor, etc. hey, these are the things that you should learn to do everyday of your life, year in and year out, not to wait for a beginning of the year, then think over hey these i must do from this year onwards. well, these are what we call perpetual resolutions.
according to dr. stephen coley, author of ‘the 7 habits of highly effective people’ there are resolutions that are termed as ‘important but not urgent’, and these are often the hardest to keep. why? because, he said, these resolutions have no deadline, and no immediate penalty (or reward) for lack of eg completion. they don’t act on you; you must act on them. (i know his say is for the military but can apply to us too).
he cited a few examples like “i must further my education” and believe it or not “i must back-up my computer files”. ha!. i guess i can relate to the latter. i have never back-up my hard disk though i know it is important to do so because er… well… er… it is not really urgent!! 🙂
by the way, who started this tradition of making resolutions during new year? it seems that it goes as far back as the babylonians time.
for those of you who enjoy making resolutions, perhaps you can take a peep here to see how you can keep your resolutions and oh…. may luck be with you…. er…. no…. may perseverance be with you… hope you’ll not break your resolutions. me i’m very contented with my one and only perpetual resolution which i don’t have to make!
