ayam beg! ayam beg!

that, my dear, to the uninitiated (or non malaysians) is simply “i am back’. in pidgin english with a slang ala our ayo-yo samy minister. (i’m sure you have heard of the famous ‘ayam kambing beg’ story?).

yes i’m back from singapore. took the super VIP bus on 8 dec. (monday) at 9.30pm and was suppose to reach penang on 9 dec (tuesday) 7.00am, but we (my family and i) reached at 9.00am. all because the bus driver drove so slow. and what was worst, we had to change bus when the bus reach butterworth. since there were only 6 of us going to penang, we were shooed down from the bus to board another bus that was going to penang. i really hate this. i had experienced this before. methinks it is not fair at all for us as the bus customers, to have to change bus especially if we have to move heavy luggage.

well i complained to the bus driver saying “apalah ini. sangat susah. mesti tukar bas. lain kali kami tak mahu beli bas tiket dari company kamu” (what lah. so troublesome. next time we will not want to buy bus ticket from your company anymore), and do you know what?? the bus driver had the cheek to reply “tak mahu beli, saya lebih gembira. saya tak ‘ada kerja”. (don’t want to buy better still. i have less work to do).

i then added “tak mahu beli, towkay tak dapat duit” (if didn’t buy ticket, your boss will be at a lost), but he kept on grumbling something which i forgot. i did said to him we were suppose to reach at 7.00am as told by the ticket seller when we bought the ticket but look what time it is now… now already 8.00am and we had not even reach yet. and he replied “sekarang sampai pukul 10.00 pagi lah.” the cheek of this man!! anyway since i want to have the last words, just as i boarded the other bus, i grumbled “leceh lah!”.

those who travel often by express bus, do you have any bad experience to share? long long ago… think about 10 years ago, i had one very bad experienced. one day i’ll tell you about it.

i should have complained publicly (writing to the paper or to the company) about the change of bus and especially about the driver’s attitudes. he could at least apologised saying that he hope we understand we had to change bus since only 6 of us on board. what an idiot.

anyway back to my trip to singapore. from penang to singapore, no bus problem since i went in car driven by my brother. it’s so easy travelling across the border in car as one don’t have to get down for passport stamping or have bags checked. that was my first time i passed the border in a car.

well the main reason i went to singapore was to attend my nephew’s confirmation ceremony (confirmation is one of the 7 sacraments of the church that is compulsory), which was held on sunday (7 dec) evening.

i arrived in singapore on 4 dec (thurs) around 11.00pm. before crossing to singapore, we detour to melaka, as my brother wanted to introduce to us a famous peranakan restaurant in melaka. sorry forgot the restaurant’s name but the place i think was in something taman raya or taman melaka where there are many restaurants around. this particular restaurant was famous for its cincalok. we stop there for our dinner.

i did not go sight seeing since i had been to singapore before a couple of times. well we only went window shopping, though most of the times it was only window shopping. however in the end (after the 4 days), i did buy something. i guess it’s a case of what we like to call in hokkien ‘bad eyes’….. meaning i did not intend to buy it but on setting my eyes on it, i was drawn to buy. well i bought 2 pants, 2 t-shirts and a pair of scholl shoes, which is quite costly at S$49.50, which when converted to our currency at the rate on that day, will come to near RM110.00! well if i see this particular shoe, lower than RM110.00 in penang, i’m going to kill myself!! 🙂

singapore now is having promotion for visitors with its singapore roars campaign on. if you get one of those singapore roars card, you will be entitled to discounts or privileges when you visit certain shops/restaurants/places. though i know i will not have the chance to use the card, i and my sister went to the singapore tourism stall to get one all the same, as when we did, we were entitled to a lucky draw.

oh when we return from singapore to penang, my brother drove us to JB to take the bus from there. and he took us to a famous chinese restaurant in JB for dinner. this restaurant is call ‘tek sing’ and it is well known for its ‘paper baked chicken’. not particularly nice though. maybe it is because i don’t really like chicken.

i did not manage to catch a nap after returning home and now i’m dead sleepy (can’t sleep in the bus!) so i guess i’ll have to stop here, and go for my beauty sleep. hope to get in touch with malaysian news/issues again so i’ll have something to blog.
