it is now the season of lent in the catholic calendar. lent begins on ash wednesday (9 feb) and today we are 9 days into lent. (count excluding sunday).

every year, penang diocese(consisting of the churches in the northern area) will get materials for the lenten campaign from the KL’s ‘national office for human development’. however, this year, the lenten campaign was left to the ‘penang office for human development’ (POHD) to organise it.

POHD came up with the theme ‘give from your heart’ for this year’s lenten campaign. they conducted a one day formation session to form a small team of people to promote the lenten campaign in all the churches in the penang diocese. the team members will be known as ‘the love squad’ and they are to come up with projects/activities every week of lent to made people aware of making donations for lent.

last week, being the 1st sunday of lent, most churches had their launching of the lenten campaign. the parish i belongs to (city parish), had a simple launching, where we offered up the lenten streamer as gift, then later on, unveil it, followed by the giving out of the donations envelopes and flyers. the ‘love squad’ team members have a special t-shirt to wear so as to be easily identified. the t-shirt is purple colour (lent colour) and has the logo in front and the name ‘love squad’ at the back.

the flyers explain to the people where their money will go to. yes, it goes to POHD of course but for what purpose? so the flyer explains about the different ministries and projects POHD are involved where they need funds to run it. see POHD’s website for the different ministries.

this weekend i and my team members will be at the assumption church to promote the campaign. the following weekends we will be going to the other 3 churches of city parish.

we hope that in this season of lent, people would be generous enough to make contributions, no matter big or small, as long as you give from your heart.

thanks!

p/s – btw, POHD and tenaganita will be organising a training (today!) for all volunteers and interested individuals who have been or would like to be involved in the migrant workers ministry. more details.
