the sins of blogging – part II
now, after blogging on john hawkin’s 3 cardinal sins, here are some light-hearted sins of blogging that i myself came up with. now, please these are my own personal opinion, so if you disagree, don’t hit out at me, ok, or don’t be childish to say “oh you may not like this, but many other people like it”. that is obvious of course. others liking what i don’t like doesn’t mean i shouldn’t speak up on it and pass negative remarks about it. i encountered these kind of people before. they are so irritating. even when i’m commenting at other people’s blogs, these people will come attack me with that stuff of “to you it is nonsense but to others it is not, so please don’t talk bad about it.” huh! stupid! if i find it nonsense of course i will talk bad about it. i am speaking for myself, not others. oops sorry, i digress. i should leave this for another post on irritating people. now back to sins of blogging.
1. apologising for not blogging.
ya, i’m sure you notice it if you goes blog hopping, you would come across a blogger saying “i am sorry for not having any updates yesterday” (or past few days).
some of you might said this is not a sin because it is only right that a blogger apologise if s/he wants to. also, it seems to contradict john hawkin’s cardinal sin no. 2. john said inconsistency kills, that you must blog regularly, so i guess when bloggers don’t blog regularly, they apologise.
well i used to do that but then i stop doing it as i feel, as i feel, who really cares if i do not post for a day or two. after all, it’s not only my blog my audiences are reading! true, it’s better i post regularly but if i don’t, there’s no need for me to apologise.
2. no private contact.
bloggers who do not leave their email address or maybe feedback form… anything for readers to contact them privately. yes, sure there is comments, but you must understand sometimes, some people prefer to contact the blogger directly in private. well, they don’t even like to leave a comment with ‘please email me’ since their email will be known.
3. overuse of ‘what species….’ quiz, complete with picture.
you know, those quizes like where you can get from quizilla or emode. there are, e.g., what kind of lord of the ring character are you, what kind of fruit are you, what elements are you and so on.
once in a long long while you put it up, it’s ok but not too often. i have to admit when i first started blogging, i did put up this kind of quiz quite often, and right in the beginning, even have the quiz/pic permanently up at the sidebar for a week. however, as i go along visiting other blogs, and spying them often, it kind of irritate me. well this means what i did might irritate people too! so i stop using it. honestly, who the hell cares to know whether you are a watermelon or a pineapple! lol.
4. a post that is full of different typefaces (include attributes like italic, bold, center, oh and block letters) or colours.
ugh! a ‘rojak’ post! need i say more on this one? it’s so irritating to the eyes to read it. you can get a headache too, mind you. luckily there are not many of these kind of posts in the blogs i vists. well… eric mudasi’s blog is close though. wits0, you must tell him not to put in colours or alternate with italic and normal.
5. not attributing your source.
well, it’s only polite to name your source if you grab an article or a picture from somewhere else. even if you don’t know the source, for some reason or other, well, say “source unknown”. at least we’ll know the story/picture is not your own.
ok i guess 5 points are enough, though of course i still have many points but they would be too common, so no need to mention them. anyway, before i leave you, i recommend you to read what one blogger, alison of quantum tea had to say on the sins of blogging. she divided them into two parts – content sins and design sins. i find i agree with most of her points. (and oh, that i’m guilty of a few points.)
happy blogging… and oh try not to commit any blogging sins. 🙂
