is malaysia an islamic state?

(i know to many, this is an old stale topic that seems to go round in merry-go-round, but what the heck).

apparently our no. 2 man, the deputy PM tells us that it is not proper to pur forward that question. well… not exactly to us but to opposition leader, lim kit siang (LKS), when in the parliament sitting on wednesday LKS questioned the declaration in 2001 by our ex PM that malaysia is an Islamic country.

and UMNO youth chief datuk hishammuddin said that LKS raised this issue because he was bankrupt of issues. really? but from what i observe, whatever issues LKS raised, they (the top BM people) will always say he has no other important issues to raise. important by whose standard? why don’t they asked the rakyat instead? to the BN, it seems that everything the opposition raised is not important.

and this UMNO youth chief had the cheek to say:
“whatever issues raised by the opposition, BN would continue to get the support of both muslims and non-muslims.”

yakah? so why do we need the opposition then? first, whatever they raised are not important, then whatever they raised, they won’t receive support from all….. so let parliament be filled with only all those ‘dacing’ people lah.

in the meantime, LKS called on parliament to address the islamic state issue objectively and rationally.

yalah. why these UMNO people get all jumpy (and defensive?) when the issue on islam was brought up. yeah yeah i know. they said it is a sensitive issue and shouldn’t be raised… but since it had been raised, can’t they talk/discuss about it as LKS put it, objectively and rationally? and after all, lots of people, including many muslim does not agree that malaysia is an islamic state.

LKS, in all his seriousness, can still joke when he made reference to utusan malaysia’s distorted news reporting. he said that he already had a double-major under ISA and he might be doing a tripos under ISA because of utusan malaysia’s front-page headline. haha. funny. double-major and tripos in ISA. what is the first time call?
