it’s your moral obligation to vote
believe it or not, i heard from a priest "it is a sin not to vote". true. why? well i guess it is because, as the heading here suggest, it is our moral obligation as a citizen, to vote, thus we have to fulfill our moral obligation. anyway, this is part of the ‘catechism of the catholic church‘ (official exposition of the teachings of the catholic church). see, nos 2239 – 2240 says:
Citizens must also contribute to the common good. This common good requires that a citizen fulfill his role in the community’s political life.
This co-responsibility means citizens must pay taxes, vote, and defend one’s country. "Pay to all of them their dues, taxes to whom taxes are due, revenue to whom revenue is due, respect to whom respect is due, honor to whom honor is due" (Rom 13:7). "Christians obey the established laws and their way of life surpasses the laws" (Letter to Diogneties).
with this in mind, the bishop of penang had issued an exhortation, sent to all churches in the diocese, urging the people of god to exercise their rights to vote.
ok forget the catholic church for now. of course it is everyone’s rights (regardless of religion) to vote…. so have you register yet?
