do you mind a gay PM?

our dear ex PM said that this is a no-no for, particularly a mostly muslim country like our country.

of course we know he was referring to former deputy, anwar. he said this when he was in court filing, challenging a lawsuit by anwar who was sacked amid allegations of sodomy.

anwar had sued mahathir for 100 million ringgit after mahathir repeated his sodomy allegations at a human rights conference in sept. 2005. mahathir then had made a bid to strike out anwar’s suit.
“I strongly believe we cannot have a prime minister who is homosexual. Malaysia is officially an Islamic country.”

does he mean then it is ok to have a gay PM in a non islamic country? it was as though he was saying an islamic country ought to be squeaky clean. (hic!)
to me the question of which countries is irrelevant. and the question of whether anwar is or is not a gay is irrelevant to his being a PM.

mahathir is very convinced that anwar is gay. he said anwar’s speech writer, munawar anees, had admitted in court to engaging in sodomy with anwar.

to me it doesn’t matter if a person is gay rules the country as the PM. the question of him being gay is not the issue. gays are humans too and they have their rights just as everyone does. i’d rather have a gay and non corrupted person as a PM than a straight but corrupted-to-the-core person as a PM.
i have no fondness of anwar at all and i do not want to see him as PM, not because i might feel that he is gay. he is of course no angel at all and is just as bad as our former PM and the others now ruling umnoputera.

however, i do agree with anwar when he shot back at mahathir “face me in court if you dare.”

yes, if mahathir is totally convinced anwar is gay, why does he have no balls to face anwar in court?

“This latest attempt on his part after two years to dismiss my suit without resorting to a trial clearly indicates he has no moral ground whatsoever to stand on.

“He knows I have evidence which, when exposed in open court, will confirm all the statements I have made about his gross abuse of power, autocratic ways and corrupt practices during his rule.”

oh, that’s why!
