my mykad but is it my religion?
shocking! (or not?). teresa kok, the MP for seputeh disclosed that she had proof that more than 300 christians had their religion stated incorrectly in their mykad.
“the names were collected from churches around the country. with the help of the national evangelical christian fellowship (NECF), this information will be forwarded to azmi for further action,” kok said when met at MIC president datuk s. samy vellu’s open house last night. excerpt from the star report.

this is not something new of course as we had heard before many complains of errors in mykad, as far back as in july this year. once, if i’m not mistaken, there was even someone who had a sex change courtesy of the NRD! (national registration dept.)
sitiawan state assemblyman, ngeh koo ham, was one of the many who found out that there are irregularities in mykad. he found out his religion (christianity) was listed wrongly while his wife has ‘no religion’ on their mykad, after he bought a card reader to check. well he advised the public to check the details in their cards immediately with the counter staff during collection to verify that all their details are correct.
oh no. i did not do that. i collected my mykad somewhere early june this year. at that time, i did not yet come across lots of complains so i guess i did not bother to check. gee… should i buy a card reader to check? or maybe hunt around for someone with a card reader to borrow it. i wonder can we go back to the NRD to check?
i once talked about my mykad in comments of one of my blog (couldn’t locate it now), and i mentioned about me having to wear the NRD’s coat. i was so disappointed lah. i thought i already wore a collared plain colour t-shirt, it was ok, but it was not and i had to don on the coat, and was doing it in haste, thus as i fear, the photo with the coat on, turned out awful, as you can see – not symmertical! argh! but the loudest arghhh was reserved for my round chubby fat face! (see above my mykad). arrgghhhhhh…. i looked so fat in the card. argghhh…. time to go on diet. i guess during these 4 days hols, maybe time for me to stop eating less!
OT here: has anyone of you notice, lately, blogs using blogger, had trouble loading? it take ages to load them!
UPDATED 1849hrs: the deputy home minister speaks up. he advised you to check your details when collecting your mykad. as expected, to make excuses for their sloppy work, he said that the religion of an applicant was lifted from the birth certificate, and if we change our religion after that, it will not be shown. really kah? i thought we all fill in an application form when applying for mykad, and there is a line that stated ‘ugama’ (religion). cheh! excuses! excuses!
what are the implications of having one’s religion wrongly stated? for one thing, as the national evangelical christian fellowship malaysia (NECFM) secretary general stated, it will cause problem when that person died in terms of funeral arrangements and inheritance. then there is also this thing about the statistics of the number of christians (for example of those christians whose religion were recorded otherwise) being reduced.
i do agree with our the archbishop of KL, murphy pakiam, that in the first place, a person’s religion shouldn’t be stated in mykad. that, will solve everything.
