it’s my rights, right?
ok i know i’m late in blogging on this (i was not around!) but i still have to talk something about this since it concern that old man.
it’s regarding our ex PM, dr m’s speech at SUHAKAM‘s annual conference. many of you would have known by now how several foreign envoy staged a walkout during his speech, and this was what dr m said:
“they have the right to walk out. they have the right to criticise me like i have the right to criticise them.”
oh my! ain’t that right or what? look who’s talking about rights!
(note: for the full text of dr m’s speech, click here).
we all know how dr m, during his tenure as PM had trampled on human rights, and yet there he was talking about rights. (via lone, a letter from malaysiakini on some ways dr m had trampled on the rights of others).
don’t you think what dr m said there regarding his rights and their rights were kind of childish? it’s like… can i say… i have a right to shit in your house, thus you have the right to shit in my house just as i shit in your house. ok maybe i sound too extreme but what i’m trying to point out is that this ‘rights’ things has its limit. having the right to do something (or say something) doesn’t mean you can do anything you like as you wish… just because it is your rights. am i right?
