the malays says ‘yes’ to ISA
no no, that is not a sweeping statement from me to mean ALL melayu said so but i have a reason for using the heading… related to the picture you see here. ok after clearing that up, let me start from where i wanted to start.
although i’m anti-ISA, i’m not disappointed, of course, that there is a pro-ISA group. we all have different opinion. we all have our own rights – if the pro-ISA group wants to organise a rally, fine. however, i question them – why on earth do they choose 1 aug, the date where the gerakan mansuh ISA (GMI) is going to hold its rally.
GMI had already long ago planned to oraganise the rally on 1 aug., whereas all of a sudden, few days ago, we heard the pro-ISA is also organising a rally and on the same day. so what gives? so was it that the pro-ISA group purposely choose the 1 aug. date, knowing that the anti-ISA group is going to hold its rally on that day?
another thing, if you notice, the different groups/NGOs that made up the pro-ISA group consists of malays only (that’s why my heading here ‘the melayu say yes to ISA’). hmm… why is that so? i thought the president of GMI had said that the ISA is unislamic? or was it nik aziz who said it?
from malaysiakini:
But a counter-rally is being planned by Majlis Permuafakatan Ummah (Pewaris), a Malay interest advocate, who will be leading a march of their own involving a coalition of 10 similar groups.
This groups includes Pertubuhan Pribumi Perkasa Malaysia (Perkasa), Coalition of Young Malay Graduates (GGMM) and traditional Malay martial arts, or silat, groups.
[…]
“We just want to show our support for the ISA. We will avoid any contact (with GMI). We are all Malays,” said Omar.
i know GMI consists of all different races. our PAIN (penang anti-isa network) in fact, when first formed, we try to hard to get some malays in as all who are in are non malays. why then the pro ISA group consists of malays only? oh yeah, ok ok i understand there will be some non malays who support ISA for sure but what i mean is the groups here that went on a march once before and now going again for another on 1 aug.
funny this omar. who is the silat association leader had to mention “we are all malays” just after saying they all support ISA.
ok, look at the strange picture you see here, which i get from malaysia today (also the reason why the heading here). look at their t-shirts. very good. very nice. look again… at the sash these 2 men were wearing – what is written on the sash? it is ‘hidup melayu, hidup islam’. (long live malays, long live islam). that’s the strange part. oh seeing that all of them are melayu, then maybe it’s not strange at all. however, i’m perplexed that why should they cry “hidup melayu, hidup islam” in a pro-ISA rally or forum. what has ISA to do with malays and islam?
let me see…
is the ISA exclusive to the melayu? or don’t tell me the ISA is a ‘malay institution’ like what the editor of berita hairan said of the MACC?
is it that this ‘hidup melayu, hidup islam’ cry at a pro ISA gathering means the melayu are defending ISA?
why the need to bring in race and religion in a cause you are defending? why should these groups of pro ISA malays speak for all malays? well, they showed that – that they speak for all malays – when they have that sash on and/or (i’m sure) when they scream ‘hidup melayu, hidup islam’.
why the need to cry ‘hidup melayu, hidup islam’ not only at the pro ISA rally but anywhere? don’t they feel embarrassed with this kind of cry? as i had said it many times, i would feel embarrassed if i heard ‘hidup cina, hidup kristian’ cry from anyone in a rally/protest/forum. i’m proud of my race and i know my race will ‘hidup’ without people crying out for it to ‘hidup’. ahhh… so does that means these melayu here (i don’t mean all melayu, see) have no faith in their own race? they are so scared their race may die off, so they have to cry out ‘hidup melayu’?
originally i had planned to attend the anti ISA rally on 1 aug, this saturday but now on learning that the pro ISA group will be there too, on the same day, at the same time, at about the same place. many people had advise me better don’t go. why? there is a fear that the pro ISA group will be out there to create trouble! and you know the government/authorities stand lah… naturally they’ll go more for the anti ISA (and sorry to say the non malays) people. so i’m going to stay away from the rally. well yes… some of you may think that shows i’m well… a coward. oh well, whatever you think. i’m going to listen to my family and friends to stay away, especially so when the rally is held away from my home (penang). better to be safe than to be sorry (or get detained!). however, i encourage all of you brave ones to go for the rally (oh ok, even if you are for ISA – go join the ‘melayu’ group!).
