got a new ‘toy’ – acer aspire 2930
whoaa! finally i bought a notebook… but not entirely with my own money. my sister foot most of the bill! (more than half).
actually my sister did thought of buying a notebook but to her it is not important at all, so she doesn’t really care if she doesn’t have one. then when i decided to take up malaysiakini’s citizen journalism workshop, i was thinking i ought to have a notebook as i’m sure a notebook is needed during the workshop. so i persuaded my sister to buy one. i told her that she will then be able to use a computer at home because most of the time i’m stuck to the house desktop computer (thus she can’t use it). haha.
so during the pikom PC fair in the beginning of dec., together with my nephew, i went to shop for a notebook. i had wanted something very small – thought of the eepc but my nephew said the eepc is not suitable for me if i want to use the notebook for video uploading and video editing. the reason i want it small is so that it is easy for me to carry, bearing in mind, i don’t drive! also that small – eepc type – is not suitable for typing/surfing at home – for my sister to use it at home.
we looked at so many models and asked about the specs here and there, that in the end we end up rather confused. haha. i did thought of buying the good one with easy payment scheme but then i remember my sister doesn’t like buying things with installments. many of the standard most common notebook display size of 14" are available and good but then i saw one with display of 12.1", so i thought hey it is smaller than the standard one but still bigger than the eepc (which is 7" or 8" i believe), so why not buy it. so i was hooked. and the specs of this acer aspire 2930 looks very good. you can, if you want to read about the review here and here. it uses one of the latest processor – intel core 2 duo T5800 / 2 GHz. i like the ‘crystal brite’ display and the stereo ‘sensuround’ speakers. it also has good connectivity – something i look forward to if i bring the notebook out at meetings or out-station.
well, this notebook will be used by my sister at home and by me when i’m out of the home. (also of course by my sister out of the house if she need it). actually if i can afford it, i don’t mind buying a eepc notebook which i can carry along with me everywhere i go each time i’m out of the house. at the moment, i have to depend on my dell axim PDA as a portable computer.
oh forgot to mention how much i bought the notebook for. at RM2200… but without operating system. i asked my nephew to install window XP for me but then he said something something that can’t install winXP so he install vista instead. however i’m using the old office – office 2005. i had ‘play’ with it twice already but i see still lots of features to explore… and lots of other stuffs to install/set up. well i guess these days i’ll be busy with my new ‘toy. 🙂
