zam, zam, alikazam! i was right!

yippy! i was right! so  happy! thank you, zam, thank you!

on 18 oct. when i blog about the RSF press freedon index, at the last paragraph i wrote:

—"gee, i wonder if our government will heed all the calling. first of all, will the govt. bother with RSF’s index ranking? RSF is from paris. the govt might go ’swim n the river nile’ again (that means in denial mode lah) and accused RSF of not knowing what they are doing, or being a ‘foreigner from the west’ out to demonise malaysia, that’s why the low ranking."—

and what do you think? on 20 oct, the minister of misinformation, zainuddin, otherwise known as zam, came out to say that the RSF freedom index is not valid. see, i told you so!

Zainuddin said Malaysians and Asians should not be worried about the drop in rankings of press freedom in Malaysia as it did not reflect the truth of press freedom in the country.

see? he is in denial mode!

Malaysians and other Asians should ignore the press freedom ratings made by the Paris-based Reporters Without Borders (RSF) as the body is not a judge on local values, Information Minister Datuk Seri Zainuddin Maidin said yesterday.

He said the ratings were based on Western values of press freedom, which were mainly driven by the market and money.

see? the stuff about RSF being a foreigner!

and what is this nonsense about local (asian) values and western values?? values are values period. they are the same universally. for a long time i had been saying for a long time here and there (in forums and newsgroup) that i believe there is no such thing as asian values and western values.

sometimes i feel that these malaysian people, the minsters especially when they like to refer to asian values and western values, it was as though they were so proud that their (so-called) asian values are much better than (so-called) western values.

viola! this zam guy proves me right again with his  "… western values of press freedom, which were mainly driven by the market and money." he think so lowly of western values – that they are greedy people, greedy for money. what? and asian or eastern values are not?

that was what irked my blogger buddy, maverick when he said that he was surprised zam referred to western values being based on market and money as if eastern values isn’t.

mave went on to say…

I remembered he had said that UMNO thrives on "Kautim culture" and needed the handouts and rent seeking system.

All economic system is driven by money and most of all, the market dictates the momentum.

… and he proceeded to give some examples. go to his blog and read!

my oh my, zam never fail to amaze us, right? i hope one day my friend, martin jalleh will do a write-up on zam, just like what he did on nazri. i had mentioned to him that one day he should do one on zam and he said yes, provided he has time, and when i told him most of us bloggers label him as the minister of misinformation, he agreed that it  is a most apt name for him!
